Anonymous review

Every hotel featured is visited personally by members of our team, given the Smith seal of approval, and then anonymously reviewed. As soon as our reviewers have returned from this beachside hotel in Cape Town and unpacked their binoculars, a full account of their luxury city break will be with you. In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick postcard from Cape View Clifton in South Africa…

When we say that Cape Town beaches get windy, we mean windy. But the Clifton beaches, in the shadow of Table Mountain, are almost supernaturally sheltered: when Camps Bay is being sandblasted by the southeaster wind, you'll be smug in sheltered Clifton. Throw in first-class service, top-notch style and a serve-yourself honesty bar, and Cape View Clifton is your ideal boutique hotel home-from-home.

We loved

The views were fantastic – a great breakfast also.

Don’t expect

Top quality service from the staff, they do tend to leave you to yourself, which can be not a bad thing.

We loved

Our Deluxe Suite - it was spacious, comfortable, with contemporary design and felt homely. The views from the balcony, of the ocean and mountains, were great. Breakfast was good, especially the cooked special each morning. The staff were all very helpful and friendly.

Don’t expect

To walk to restaurants in the evening, as there are none near enough. You need to use a car or taxi - or the hotel can suggest options to order food for delivery, and you can use the microwave in the main kitchen to heat items up.

We loved

The view! An incredible view of the bays and Twelve Apostles. The small boutique feel and the very friendly and helpful staff – always with a smile. The thoughtful, luxury yet comfortable design. The location – close to Camps Bay but not directly in the hubbub – making Camps Bay, Cape Town centre and the mountains are very accessible.

Don’t expect

The view to be as amazing or the room to be as big.

We loved

Wonderful breakfast, amazing view and excellent service.

We loved

The staff were so lovely and helpful. Our room was straight out of a White Company shoot light and super cosy with a big balcony for watching the waves hitting the beach below. The honesty bar with a great selection of local wines was a really nice touch too. Lastly, our Mr&Mrs Smith picnic was something else!

Don’t expect

A grand hotel facade from the street – we nearly drove straight past the hotel as it is built into the steep cliff face.

We loved

The hotel view and breakfast.

Don’t expect

To be a short walking distance from food or drink.

We loved

The view was spectacular with a massive balcony. The room was huge and the bed very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast freshly cooked and delicious.

Don’t expect

Room service. The bathroom is rather dated.
