Our favourite rooms
Go for a Deluxe Suite for the larger living area; other than that, all rooms are spacious, light and pleasingly airy.
Dive into the outdoor pool… or just lounge on the sun deck and take in the sea and mountain views.
There’s no spa on-site, but in-room treatments can be arranged on request.
Save space in your suitcase by leaving your beach bag or wellies – depending on the season – at home. Guests will find the hotel’s own awaiting on arrival.
Touch down at Cape Town International Airport, a 20-minute drive from the hotel (taxis are readily available, or Cape View can arrange more luxurious transport).
Clifton’s right in the middle of Cape Town’s coast. If you’re road tripping your way around South Africa's coastline, you can park your car just over the road from the hotel.
Worth getting out of bed for
Your first stop when planning your Cape Town adventures will be the front desk: the hotel’s local-expert staff will be thrilled to share their city’s secrets with you. If you’re in town to shop, check out some local designers: Missibaba, Kirsten Goss, Skinny Laminx and Cecile & Boyd are all on Cape View’s hit list of top shops. And when you’ve worked up an appetite, do lunch: Suprette, Weinhaus & Biergarten, Frankie Fenner Meat Merchants and The Chef's Warehouse are all recommended hot spots. And for the best dinners in Cape Town, try The Pot Luck Club, The Test Kitchen, Aubergine, Manna Epicure, Carne, 95 Keerom, Il Leone, Societi Bistro, The Grand Beach Cafe, The Round House or Black Sheep.
Every hotel featured is visited personally by members of our team, given the Smith seal of approval, and then anonymously reviewed. In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick postcard from Cape View Clifton in South Africa…
When we say that Cape Town beaches get windy, we mean windy. But the Clifton beaches, in the shadow of Table Mountain, are almost supernaturally sheltered: when Camps Bay is being sandblasted by the southeaster wind, you'll be smug in sheltered Clifton. Throw in first-class service, top-notch style and a serve-yourself honesty bar, and Cape View Clifton is your ideal boutique hotel home-from-home.
Whenever you book a stay at a Smith hotel or villa, we’ll invite you to review it when you get back. Read what other Smith members had to say in Cape View Clifton’s Guestbook below.
The staff were so lovely and helpful. Our room was straight out of a White Company shoot – light and super cosy with a big balcony for watching the waves hitting the beach below. The honesty bar with a great selection of local wines was a really nice touch too. Lastly, our Mr&Mrs Smith picnic was something else!
A grand hotel facade from the street – we nearly drove straight past the hotel as it is built into the steep cliff face.

The view was spectacular with a massive balcony. The room was huge and the bed very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast freshly cooked and delicious.
Room service. The bathroom is rather dated.

The view from the pool, the breakfast, afternoon cake and the location.
Our room (Junior Suite) was large and comfortable but not very bright or secluded.

We loved everything about this hotel, we stayed in the deluxe studio and couldn't get over the size, it was like a home from home. We had a very large balcony overlooking the sea with the 12 Apostles in the background. The staff were wonderful, very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone. We would love to come back one day.
Dont expect a restaurant but they will happily arrange a meal for you if you dont want to leave the hotel.

Everything! But in particular the stunning views and the wonderful breakfasts made by the team. The house felt like our own for the time we were there.
To be able to enjoy the big bath – there is a drought in SA and the plugs have been removed.
