The Depner House

  • 4guests
  • 2cribs - free for ages 0 to 3
This Saxon-style house was built in the 18th century for the Depner family who looked after the land. This picturesque dove-grey cottage with a red-tiled roof has been painstakingly restored, including bringing its wood beams, cast-iron staircase and original ironmongery back to its former glory. It’s set at the heart of the village, a stone’s throw from the estate’s Kitchen Barn. There’s a terrace set for alfresco meals and drinks, and within there are two bedrooms (up to four guests can stay here in total), each decorated in restful pastel hues, with a king-size bed dressed in Egyptian cotton linens, bespoke modern furnishings, iron and brass lamps, natural textiles and hand-sewn curtains. Each bedroom has its own ensuite too (one with a shower, the other with a shower over a bath tub), with tumbled-limestone flooring and cast-iron vanity units. And, in the barn there’s a library for guests to relax in, with soft sofas and a working fireplace, a fridge and Nespresso machine. Plus, you’ll have use of a Playstation, free WiFi, Bose speakers, a TV with streaming services and L’Occitane bath products. And, the hotel’s team will also treat you very well here, supplying welcome drinks and afternoon tea, lighting fireplaces and stoves, clearing snow and offering local recommendations. On request up to two baby cots can be added for free.

The Caretaker’s House

  • 8guests
  • 3cribs - free for ages 0 to 3
This charming house, which – yes – has accommodated caretakers at the estate for 300 years, sleeps four to eight guests and can only be booked for exclusive use. After all, you’ll want this beautifully preserved manse all to yourselves, and it has everything needed to make you feel at home, including staff to welcome you with a drink (champagne, homemade brandy, wine), prepare breakfast and afternoon tea, clear snow, stoke fireplaces and stoves, clean and act as a concierge. There’s an expansive outdoor deck with lush green views to relax on and throughout the interior there are wood beams, brightened with white walls and modern furnishings in tasteful pastel hues. You’ll have a fully-equipped kitchen with an induction cooker and oven; a large refrigerator filled with soft drinks, beer, wine, and champagne; Nespresso coffee-machine; cornflower-blue cabinets; and Tom Dixon lighting. Plus there’s direct access to a peaceful terrace. The dining room sits up to 10, the peaceful library has books and board games, and the cosy TV room has a Playstation and streaming services. Guests sleep in four bedrooms, each with its own individual charms (beams, soft hues, mid-century furnishings and large tiled stoves), an Egyptian-cotton-dressed king-size bed and an ensuite bathroom (two with a walk-in shower, two with a shower over a bath tub, and L’Occitane bath products; and some have a Carrara marble sink). After a day of exploring you can unwind in your own sanarium (with White Company bathrobes), and there’s free WiFi throughout.
