Arkaba Homestead

  • 2guests
Arkaba Homestead offers elegant Guest Rooms, with a separate Coachman's Cottage just across the garden. Air-conditioned, with trad ceiling fans, each features a double bed with fine linen and a Merino-wool bedhead, bedside tables wrapped in heritage wool sacks and topped with lamps made from ostrich eggs, lounge chairs, a desk, ample storage and tactile cow-hide rugs. All boast graceful ensuite bathrooms, with showers in three rooms (Chace, Elder and Bartholameus) and freestanding, roll-top baths in the Rasheed Room and Coachman's Cottage. Heated towel rails keep things cosy, or if you want to freshen up, all give onto airy terraces, dotted with inviting lounge chairs, with country views. In keeping with the period feel, there's no TV, phone or minibar in-room, but amenities include a nightly carafe of rainwater, Australian bird book and binoculars, local animal prints on walls, and eco-friendly toiletries. All rooms can be adapted for twin beds, but the more private Coachman's Cottage works best for a small family, as there's more space in the dressing room for an extra swag bed for a child.

Walking and Swag Safari

  • 2guests
For those embarking on Arkaba's 'glamping' walking safari, you'll bed down in super-cosy swag beds on individual wooden platform decks at a different permanent bush camp each night. Each swag bed can be adapted to sleep one or two, with bedding inspired by Australian bushmen's swag rolls, consisting of a tough canvas sleeping bag filled with luxe linens and blankets. Warm water for washing will be brought to you in a copper bowl each morning, or take advantage of a hot bush shower in the bathroom hut. If rain threatens, tents will be erected on the platforms to protect your swag. Head lamps and torches provide lighting after dark.
