Spa, swimming pool, tennis courts, fitness centre, watersports, library with DVDs and CDs, kids' club, beach, concierge, free WiFi throughout, free on-site valet parking. In rooms: flatscreen satellite TV with DVD player, minibar, own-label toiletries.
For full-on four-poster, double-balcony, private-plunge-pool extravagance, book one of the two Royal Suites. The Anantara Suites, overlooking the gardens, are also tempting dens. Other rooms come in two flavours: Deluxe rooms on the second and third floors have private balconies with cosy built-in sofas; Deluxe Terraces open directly onto lushly landscaped gardens. All have terrazzo bathtubs big enough for two, just a few steps from the bed and separated by a sliding teak door.
Quirky monkey statuettes spit arcs of water into the free-form infinity pool on the beach. Swim up to the semi-submerged pool bar for a sunset happy hour cocktail then paddle over to the Jacuzzi to enjoy it in bubbly bliss.
Beach gear is all you need – you’ll swelter in anything heavier.
Couples should note that the hotel is popular with families, thanks to its kids' club, so it's busy during school holidays. Guests staying over New Year's Eve are required to attend the hotel's lavish gala dinner.
Welcome; Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort is family-friendly and offers a kids' club. Extra beds are available (THB 1200 for children, and TBH for over 12s), with breakfast included.
Overview
Children Under-2s stay for free. One extra bed (from THB1,550 per person a night) can be added to all rooms except the Premier Garden View room.
Recommended rooms
Any of the Garden View suites will definitely do the job; all open on to luscious gardens, giving the kids an opportunity to run around while you laze back on the king-size bed (some rooms have twin beds, on request only).
Crèche
The Baan Ling Noi (Little Monkey) Children’s Club is open daily from 9am to 6pm, offering a number of fun activities designed to entertain younger hotel guests. These include building sandcastles, playing mini soccer, hunting for treasure or coconut painting.
Activities
The hotel is a haven for water sports, catering to divers, snorkellers, kayakers, anglers, sailors and windsurfers (there’s even an ex-Olympian on hand to coach the latter). Of course, there's also the beach. Waters are usually calm and placid, but keep an eye out for the red flags that indicate stormy waters.
You don't have to book babysitters if you want some pampering – children are welcome in the spa, which is open from 10am to 10pm. While mum or dad indulge in something spoiling (the 200-minute Journey of Siam or 165-minute Dawn Renewal ritual, perhaps?), little Smiths can be cosseted with a chocolate body scrub, a tropical body cocoon treatment or a relaxing massage (among other treats). The spa boasts more than 3,000 square metres of quiet, natural surroundings and private pools for outdoor soaking and luxuriant relaxation.
Swimming pool
Quirky monkey statuettes spit arcs of water into the free-form infinity pool on the beach. Swim up to the semi-submerged pool bar for refreshments any time of day.
Meals
The kids will be spoiled for choice, with both restaurants catering for their younger guests at any time of the day. Menu highlights include mini hot dogs with chips, jasmine rice with mixed vegetables and sliced chicken breast, boneless fish fingers with tartare sauce and pasta with a range of sauces. Crayons and paper are provided, to keep little fingers busy. Highchairs are available, but there are no booster seats. Both restaurants are more than happy to heat up baby food or milk.
