Setting

DoBro base

Ace Hotel Brooklyn is Boerum Hill’s latest work of art. And we mean that quite literally — each deftly designed room is crafted with handmade pieces from the borough’s emerging artisans and framed with view-watching windows. Creativity is cast through communal spaces, too, where an exhibition room showcases top talent and the coffee-scented Lobby encourages collaboration. Your ambling proximity to DoBro’s well-connected streets are this hotel’s finessed finishing touch.

Address
Ace Hotel Brooklyn
252 Schermerhorn Street
Brooklyn
11217
United States

You’ll find Ace Hotel Brooklyn in downtown’s locally loved Boerum Hill neighborhood, just south of Brooklyn Bridge.

Planes

Most international flights touch down at JFK, which is around an hour’s drive from the hotel. If you’re arriving into LaGuardia, it’s a slightly closer 45-minute drive, depending on traffic. The hotel doesn’t offer private transfers, but there’ll be plenty of cabs waiting at both airports.

Trains

Hoyt-Schermerhorn Street is a two-minute walk away and your nearest subway stop. The F and G lines run from this station, connecting downtown Brooklyn with Manhattan and Queens. Hoyt Street, Nevins Street and Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center are also all less than 10 minutes away on foot.

Automobiles

Leave the driving to New York’s horn-honking experts and hop on the subway instead. If you’re braving the roads, there is a parking garage near the hotel.

Worth getting out of bed for

Ace Hotel Brooklyn’s Schermerhorn Street setting puts you close to Boerum Hill’s happenings. This artistic district has creative pursuits sorted: catch concerts at Roulette, check schedules at the King’s Theatre, or head to St Ann’s Warehouse along the waterfront for all sorts of independent plays

The Center for Brooklyn History documents the borough’s past with revolving exhibitions, and its clothing chronicles are told through the deal-packed racks of Smith and Court Street’s vintage boutiques

There’s green space to frolic in and markets to meander through at Fort Greene Park, as well as tropical plants to peruse at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. And if you’d rather take to the sea than the subway, frequent ferries depart from Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 6 to Manhattan.

Local restaurants

Neighborhood-favorite Rucola specializes in Piedmont’s farm-fresh ethos, bringing Northern Italian classics (including homemade pastas, risottos and seasonal sides) to the streets of Brooklyn. An equally carb-focused concept characterizes Piccola Cucina Casa, where menus are inspired by head chef Philip Guardione’s Sicilian childhood and family recipes. Small, flavor-packed plates and natural wine pairings draw devotees to Leland Eating and Drinking House — a chatter-welcoming spot on the corner of Dean and Underhill.

Local bars

Expertly brewed beers have been a staple at the storied Brooklyn Inn since 1885. Menus are a little more extensive these days, featuring wines and cocktails, too, but there’s still a taled charm to its central, surrounded-by-locals bar. For something more modern, Grand Army Bar pairs its craft concoctions with an alluring selection of seasonal seafood.

Anonymous review

Every hotel featured is visited personally by members of our team, given the Smith seal of approval, and then anonymously reviewed. As soon as our reviewers have returned from this visually pleasing pad in Boerum Hill and unpacked their sketchbooks and paintbrushes, a full account of their DoBro break will be with you. In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick peek inside Ace Hotel Brooklyn in New York…

In Seattle 1999, the Ace Hotel group began their ventures with the opening of a renovated boarding house, where creatives were encouraged to do just that — create. So it seems only fitting that over 20 years — and an impressive list of outposts — later, they’ve brought their expressive edge to the streets of DoBro with Ace Hotel Brooklyn

Architects intentionally created an unassuming concrete façade to front the hotel’s Schermerhorn Street setting, allowing for invited artists to dress interiors with their striking pieces. There’re sculptures in the bustling Lobby, where (often pup-accompanned) creators gather and exhibition spaces host local talent. And throughout rooms and suites, a Brutalist base is the canvas for one-off murals, all created with natural materials, and lofty light-welcoming windows. Live events, workshops and talks fill social calendars, and if you’d rather seek inspiration from the streets, Brooklyn’s artsy energy is all encompassing.
