Short, but oh so sweet…

We’ve carefully curated a Cape Town minibreak that includes our favourite cultural highs in the city and plenty of R ’n’ R on the shores of Hermanus. Not too long, not too short, this minibreak needs to be just right for you. Whether that means a few nights more in Cape Town, or a bit of mid-week merry-making in the Winelands, no request is too big or small for our Smith24 team.
Your private, English-speaking driver will be waiting at the plane doors for you, ready to whisk you through airport security and on into Cape Town in an air-conditioned luxury car.

1.5 Hours

Days 1–4: Cape Town

Your trip begins in the sunniest of South Africa’s three capitals. Immerse yourself in South African culture during your five-day stay in Cape Town. Get a taste for local life on a private tour of the area’s townships and over a traditional lunch with the locals. Spot springbok on a mini-safari, then sip your way around Stellenbosch with wine-tastings at not one, but three leading wineries.

Cliffside Clifton Beaches

Junior Suite

Cantilevered high above Clifton’s crescent-shaped coastline, Cape View Clifton is nestled between Lion’s Hill, the towering Twelve Apostles and the Atlantic Ocean – not a bad place to start your minibreak… Not to be upstaged by the sea views, the interiors include an ever-so-stylish arrangement of cool contemporary furnishings and a smattering of antiques.

A picnic basket

Day 1

You’ll arrive with plenty of time to explore your new sea-shore stop before the sun sets. If you're peckish, we recommend heading to cool Kloof Road to sample Cape Town’s famed gastronomy.

Day 2

Get to know the locals on a private guided tour around Cape Town’s townships.

Private guided tour of the Langa townships

Live like a local for the day on a private tour of the Langa townships. With your personal guide at your side, get an inside look at the Xhosa community’s culture during a traditional braai (barbecue) lunch with locals at popular eatery, Mzoli’s. On weekends (when the restaurant is closed) you’ll enjoy a home-hosted meal.

Day 3

Take this free day at your own speed: soak up the South African sun by the hotel’s pool or along Clifton’s sandy shore. Alternatively hike up Lion’s Hill (or take the cable-car for a less athletic ascent) – after all, the hotel’s already part of the way up the mountainside.

Day 4

From mountain tops to merlots, today you’ll experience the best Cape Town has to offer.

Off-road wine tour over Table Mountain

We’ve saved you a seat in the only four-wheel drive allowed to traverse Table Mountain’s steep slopes. Toast your ascent with snacks and champagne at King’s Blockhouse, which has uninterrupted views of the Cape. Then, you’re back on the road, headed for the white sandy beaches of Camps Bay. In the shadow of the 12 Apostles mountain range, you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch with cheeses, charcuterie and a variety of spreads perfectly paired with an array of local South African wines – cheers to that…
Sit back and enjoy the scenic drive from Cape Town to Hermanus, as your private chauffeur transports you from the city centre to mountain ranges and nature reserves and along the coastal Whale Route, where the mammoth mammals breach.

2 Hours

Days 5–8: Hermanus

Swap cultural highs for clifftop views, swish city bars for cocktails along the coast, and the concrete kerbs of Cape Town for the sandy shores of Hermanus.

Breezy boutique beach house

Private Hermanus peninsula

Luxury hotel Birkenhead House is your hideout in Hermanus. Perched above the sandy shores of Voëlklip Beach, this cliffside boutique stay has a prime look-out point for whale-watching. Bring your binoculars and scout out pods of cetaceans frolicking off the coast, or do some splashing about of your own in the hilltop infinity pool.

A fantastic private, candlelit dinner for two in the grounds

Day 5

Fit in some sight seeing before your driver takes you to Hermanus. On arrival at your new stay, lay claim to a lounger or explore the local hotspots on the beaches below.

Day 6

Spend this free day relaxing down on the beach, surfing, swimming and making friends with the resident dolphins.

Day 7

Glasses at the ready, today you’ll get a private tour of and wine tasting in two of Hermanus’ best wineries.

An exclusive tour and tasting in Newton Johnson Family Vineyards

Meet and greet the owners and winemakers of the Newton Johnson Family Vineyards as you take private tours of both estates. The family-run Newton Johnson Family Vineyards aren’t usually open to the public, but we’ve pulled a few vines to get you a tasting with Gordon and Nadia Newton Johnson themselves.

Day 8

Shake the sand off your beach towels and load your bags with your new wine collection, before bidding farewell to Hermanus.
Your private driver will handle the 90-minute drive back along the coast and through nature reserves to Cape Town International Airport. Once there, you’ll bid farewell to the Cape and jet off home or on to your next journey.

When to go

Cape Town is an all-year-round destination; the temperature generally fluctuates between 20 degrees (June to November) and 25 degrees (December to May). Sunny days alternate with drenching downpours between June and November, although during this time whales can be spotted from the shores – well worth a soggy afternoon or two…

Getting there

Book flights to and from Cape Town International Airport, the arrival and departure point of this trip. Our helpful Smith24 team can book flights to and from South Africa for you on request. All inland transfers in a private, chauffeured air-conditioned car are included.

Packing tips

A spare suitcase – or an empty cellar at home – will be needed for the bottles of wine collected on your trip. Bring binoculars for whale-watching at Birkenhead House, and slick city-wear for nights out on the (Cape) town.

  • How can I trust Mr & Mrs Smith's hotel choices?

A hotel or experience has to be genuinely special to make it into a Mr & Mrs Smith itinerary. The Smith team has to have ensured that any inclusions meet our high standards before they'd consider adding them to our exclusive packages.

Please refer to our terms and conditions page for our full cancellation policy.

  • What if I want to add on a few extra nights or arrange a special meal? Can I add on a waterskiing lesson? I've always fancied that… And can we stay in the honeymoon suite instead?
