For beach lovers

If you want a honeymoon of barefoot luxury and truly tropical splendour, this journey from Miami’s groomed beaches and neon strip, through Belize’s leafy interior, to its petite, perfectly formed islands, is a breath of fresh sea air. We’ve crafted a honeymoon where you needn’t pack more than your finest flip-flops and some kind of kaftan, but at your behest we can make this trip a little more luxurious or expand your beach break to include culture hits, a few more nights in the city, or a superlative seaside experience. Just let us know…
On arrival in Miami International, you’ll have a private transfer into the city by luxury car; a chauffeur will be waiting at arrivals to help with your luggage.

Days 1–3: Miami

Miami’s an all-singing, all-dancing sensation, edged with beaches and enlivened with art deco follies in Barbie’s playhouse shades. The city rarely sits still or stays quiet: club doorways belt out salsa music, Little Havana’s streets are set to their own soundtrack, and a cacophony of voices echo through Miami’s many playhouses and theatres – but, all this clamour makes for cool neon-tinged nights.

Sumptuous and cinematic

The belle of Mid-Beach

Bay View Room

Luxury hotel Faena Miami Beach delivers lavish glamour and a nod to the 1950s, with bold design by director Baz Luhrmann and his wife Catherine Martin. The hotel has three restaurants, several bars, a theatre, an expansive spa and almost 10,000sq m of private beach.

Smith Extra

Late check-out until 2pm (on availability)

Days 1–3

You’re left to your leisure in Miami, so you can decide if you spend three days prone on the sand together, or roaming the city in search of adventure. We recommend dropping some dollars in Lincoln Road’s boutiques and cooing over the Art Deco Historic District’s confections. Linger in the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden (perfect for proposal re-enactments), or – for quieter beaches and stretches of parkland, head across the Rickenbacker Causeway to Key Biscayne for the day.
You’ll be comfortably chauffeured to Miami International for your flight to Belize City (a journey of just over two hours). On touchdown, you’ll then board a scenic, 40-minute Tropic Air flight to the Maya Flats airstrip, an hour’s drive from your next stay.

3.5 Hours

Days 4–6: Cayo District

Where Miami dazzles with neon brights, the Cayo District is awash with brilliant greens. Pre-Columbian ruins poke out from dense forests; hills soar; and the area’s two major rivers cascade over bluffs. It’s all rather magical, really.

Modern Maya treehouse

Riverside rainforest reserve

Garden View Cabana

Slumber to the distant roar of the Five Sisters waterfall at Gaia Riverlodge in Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve, an alluring honey(moon)-trap for newlyweds and other lovers. Guests stay in secluded and shaggily thatched, yet luxuriously appointed cabanas. Impressively earth-kind, this lodge is certainly rewarded by its namesake: guests can watch the river play over mossy rocks from a palapa, take a refreshing dip in a swimming hole, and revel in the grounds’ greenery.

Smith Extra

Daily full American breakfast

Day 4

On arrival in Belize, you can relax and – quite literally – watch the grass grow. Hop on the hotel’s shuttle to the riverside where you can chill in a cabana.

Day 5

Today you’ll unleash your inner Indiana Jones as you seek out ruins in thick jungle terrain.

Explore the Caracol ruins and Rio Frio’s cave pools on a private tour

The well-preserved Caracol temple complex is one of Belize’s most impressive. It’s reached by navigating your way through the dense tropical rainforest of the Chiquibul Reserve, so you’ll feel like true adventurers when you reach the former Mayan city (even if you arrive by luxury, chauffeured four-wheel drive, with a personal guide in tow). After pausing for a gourmet picnic lunch, you’ll head back to the lodge via stalactite-studded Rio Frio Cave, for a cooling dip in its natural pools. This day trip takes around 10 hours in total (and don’t be alarmed if you’re escorted by a military vehicle alongside border routes).

Day 6

Today, you’re at leisure. Hit the hotel’s Jungle Spa for wholly natural treatments, or hike to Big Rock Falls for a splash of really wild swimming.
Board a Tropic Air flight back to Belize City (around 40 minutes); once there, you’ll connect to San Pedro on an ensuing Tropic Air or Maya Island Air flight (a mere 15-minute journey) to John Greif II Airport. From there, a driver will take the two of you to your next stay, a 20-minute drive away.

3 Hours

Days 7–12: San Pedro

Set to the south of the island Ambergris Caye, the town of San Pedro is small yet characterful. Its main strip has shops and cafes with colourful awnings and clapboard frontages, and each year El Gran Carnaval – an egg-smashing, paint-spattering fiesta – is held before Ash Wednesday. Further north, there are golden sands, gently swaying palms, and, thankfully, little else.

Belizean beachfront bliss

Sea View Beach Cabana

Matachica Resort & Spa looks ripped from a honeymoon Pinterest board. The retreat’s thatched cabanas, sunbathing on golden sand, turn their faces to the sun and the Caribbean’s calm turquoise waters. This is a sort of hammock-swinging, lazy-paddling, gaze-into-each-other’s eyes kinda spot – so, newlyweds will feel right at home.

Smith Extra

Full American breakfast daily and one Papaya or Banana Facial at Jade Spa (for one person only)

Day 7

Once you arrive in seaside San Pedro, slip on your flip-flops and into something more swimmable, and hit the sand and surf.

Day 8

Today, you’ll gaze into the Big Blue abyss – but, you’ll find it a rather pleasant experience, actually…

Private flight over the Big Blue Hole

Board a three-seater Cessna for a one-hour flight over Belize’s Big Blue Hole, a famous diving destination. You’ll also pass over some of the prettiest bits of the Atlantic’s largest living barrier reef, as well as manatees, shipwrecks, Glover’s Reef and the residents of the Booby Bird Sanctuary. Please note, transfers to and from the airstrip must be arranged with the hotel and may incur an extra charge.

Day 9

And, back to the beach… You’ll have today at leisure.

Day 10

Today you’ll sail off to yet another paradise isle.

Sightseeing and snorkelling in Caye Caulker

Caye Caulker is an immensely laidback spot, with sandy streets, excellent seafood and lots of underwater activity – so, it’s perfect for snorkelling. A private guide will bring you over by boat with a stop at the Hol Chan Marine Reserve and a snorkelling session along Shark Ray Alley, for nurse shark and stingray spotting. On shore, you’ll dine in one of the coolly casual local restaurants, and stroll along the island’s streets.

Day 11

Spend today as you please, whether it’s sunbathing on the beach or something more active; our Smith24 team can help you plan and book excursions.

Day 12

Savour one more seaside breakfast before your bid goodbye to your tropical island stay.
You’ll be chauffeured to San Pedro Airport; from there, you’ll catch your flight home or head off to your next adventure.

When to go

Belize is at its best from November to April, during its dry season. Visit in February to catch San Pedro’s carnival.

Getting there

You need to arrange flights to Miami (your arrival point) and from San Pedro in Belize (your departure point) – or have our Smith24 team do the legwork for you. There are direct flights to Miami from many major cities in the US and Europe; flights from Asia and Australasia usually stop over in the US. The trip includes a few short haul flights, to and within Belize, and transfers to and from airports by luxury chauffeured car.

Packing tips

Bring all beach-y accoutrements, throwing in a few acid-bright sunnies to shield yourself from Miami's glare. Salsa heels may come in handy for nights out on the strip and a light cover up for post-wild-swimming sessions in Belize's remote corners.
