Destinations

A romantic, culture-packed beach break

This fairy-tale honeymoon in India plays out over cinematic settings, with stops at a sleek city stay, rose-tinted residence in the Aravalli foothills, and luxury tents pitched by a tiger-roamed reserve. And, that’s before you jet off to a Maldivian paradise… This loved-up tropical trip can be wholly tailored to your tastes, whether you'd like an extra night in an especially romantic stay, a meal for two or perhaps a private safari drive.
After touchdown in Delhi, a private driver will whisk you away in air-conditioned comfort to your two-night stay in the city.

1 Hour

Days 1–2: Delhi

This fast-paced, history-straddling city has spoils and surprises for adventurous honeymooners.

Lodhi Room

How do we love New Delhi stay, The Lodhi? Let us count the ways: the slick grooming, backlit courtyard pool, and oh-so-handy location, just a trot from Connaught Place. Swoon.

Smith Extra

A jet lag or foot massage each for two guests on arrival

Day 1

After arrival, you'll have the rest of the day at leisure; take a dip in the pool or seek out ice-cold cocktails.

Day 2

Today a private guide will help you navigate Delhi's thronged alleyways.

Guided tour of Delhi

Your day’s private tour starts in Old Delhi; chaotic and colourful, the old town wraps you up in sari silks, wafts aloo tiki under your nose, and carries on around you as frenetically as a zippy tuk-tuk. You’ll see the Red Fort, grand marble-domed Jama Masjid mosque, and covered market Chandni Chowk. A rickshaw ride will deposit you in New Delhi, which houses a cache of gracious Edward Lutyens-designed buildings, including the Parliament Building, India Gate, and the towering Qutab Minar. The last stop is a Sikh community kitchen, where you’ll catch an authentic glimpse of Indian daily life.

From Delhi, settle in for a long drive – your chauffeur will tackle the six-hour journey to Ajabgarh.

6 Hours

Days 3–4: Ajabgarh

Blink-and-you-might-miss-it village Ajabgarh is sheltered within the Aravalli Mountain Range; however this diminutive spot is privy to sweeping panoramas of ascending greenery topped with abandoned forts and palaces.

Luxury hotel Amanbagh is so breath-takingly romantic you’ll have heart-shaped pupils from the second you spy its rose-tinted walls and cupolas on the approach through the Aravalli Range. Once inside, it turns up the charm with a colonnaded courtyard pool and royalty-ready suites.

Smith Extra

A special blessing ceremony for two

Day 3

After a lavish breakfast, your private driver will transport you to the foothills of the Aravalli mountain range. After the long drive, kick back in your garden-set suite, or explore locally: hike in the hills, or stop by 17th-century Bhangarh, home to ruins of temples, palaces and bazaars.

Day 4

It’s entirely up to you if you spend your time snuggled up in-suite, or if you seek out the Bengal tiger-roamed Sariska National Park nearby, ride to Ajabgarh’s monuments on camelback or treat yourselves in the Ayurvedic wellness centre. Ring up our Smith24 Team, and they’ll happily arrange your day’s activities.
After breakfast, you'll head off on the four-hour chauffeured drive – through wonderfully wild jungle – to Ranthambore National Park.

4 Hours

Days 5-6: Ranthambore National Park

Ranthambore National Park is a luxuriant swathe of grassland and jungle in between the Aravalli and Vindhya Mountain Ranges; while there you may spot protected Bengali tigers prowling between its spreading banyan trees.

Luxury Tent

If a ‘me Tarzan, you Jane’ scenario appeals, tricked-out, luxury tented camp Aman-i-Khás, just beyond its boundaries of Ranthambore National Park, lets you play on an exquisitely dressed stage. These tents are spotlessly white marquees with all mod-cons, sprung from a page of one of the saucier Arabian Nights tales.

Smith Extra

A camel safari for two, including sunset drinks

Day 5

On arrival, you'll settle in to your luxury tent, then head out for an afternoon game drive in the park. After sunset, get cosy around the fire pit.

Day 6

Look closely on the shared game drive into the park; you may spy Ranthambore's famed resident tigers, but if they’re a no-show there’s a taxonomy of critters to tick off your list: jackals, leopards, crocodiles, sloth bears and other wild things.
Shortly after sunrise, you'll be driven to Jaipur airport, the first leg of your journey to an island paradise, and fly to Malé airport; from there, you’ll glide in on a seaplane or boat, and gracious hosts will ensure a fuss-free check-in.

8 Hours

Days 7–13: The Maldives

Soft sands, secluded, greenery-shaded rooms, lively coral reefs: the Maldives is the stuff of fabled honeymoons, where reality does a fine job of meeting daydream expectations.

Style

Setting

Away-from-it-all Thaa Atoll

Room

Garden Room

Beautifully conceived island escape Como Maalifushi has thatched rooms with sleek wood-and-marble interiors, scattered over a bijou, gobsmackingly beautiful island in a stretch of aquamarine sea.

Smith Extra

A bottle of wine and fruit platter (and a bottle of champagne and extra fruit platter for GoldSmiths). Sunset fishing for two with seven-night stays

Days 7-12

You’ll spend six nights in your island hideaway, more than enough time to discover the Thaa Atoll’s many wonders. Marvel at luxuriant coral gardens on a private snorkel or scuba tour, hop on a surfboard or sail into the sunset (and back again). Treat yourself to some serious spoiling at the famed Como Shambhala Spa; book a couples treatment to get soothingly rubbed and scrubbed in a pavilion with an equally restorative Indian Ocean view.

Day 13

Go for a last walk along the beach before breakfast, as you’ll be departing for Malé soon afterwards.
You’ll (likely reluctantly) board a seaplane or boat, which will transport you to Malé airport; from there, you’ll fly home or on to your next adventure.

3 Hours

Getting there

Book international flights to Delhi (or have the Smith24 team arrange them by calling 03334 145 550), where most Indian adventures kick off; as such it’s easily reached from all over the world. British Airways run direct flights from London (around an eight-hour journey). Travel within India is by air-conditioned minivan, with a handy, English-speaking driver to navigate India’s often chaotic roads. You'll need to book a connecting flight from Jaipur to Malé Airport separately and a seaplane or boat transfer from there to Como Maalifushi.

When to go

India’s lush interior can be somewhat waterlogged from July to September, during monsoon season; Ranthambore National Park reopens as the mountains and jungles dry, from 1 October to 30 June. However, the Maldives are ideally positioned for clement temperatures and have sunny spells all year round.

Packing tips

Bring a headphone splitter for shared on-the-road tunes, cool and comfortable safari gear, and a trusty beach-to-bar ensemble.

  • What if I want to add on a few extra nights or arrange a special meal? Can I add on a waterskiing lesson? I've always fancied that… And can we stay in the honeymoon suite instead?
