The tastiest bits

We’ve cooked up a SideStory long weekend in Mallorca (from 7–10 June) with famed food critic Tom Parker Bowles and restaurateur-with-taste Eddie Hart (Barrafina, El Camino, Quo Vadis), where you’ll stay at beguiling new design nest Can Bordoy and be wined and dined in exuberant Balearic style.

Can Bordoy

Botanic beauty

Urban oasis

Junior Suite

Hot-off-the-press hotel Can Bordoy, in Palma’s Old Town, is your cosy casa for the weekend. It’s an old-school romantic, with velvet-swathed suites, a garden of olive and palm trees (plus a rare full-size pool), and Baroque detailing. Its food cred is secured by Botànic restaurant’s trend-nailing organic, gluten-free, veggie etc. dishes, but Mallorcan meats and cheeses uphold the decadence.

Your hosts

Tom Parker Bowles’ culinary critique first graced the pages of Tatler, and he’s been dining out on it ever since as a critic at The Mail on Sunday, food editor at Esquire, on-the-go gourmet for Condé Nast Traveller and contributor to Country Life, Harper’s Bazaar and Town & Country among others. He’s also written seven cookbooks, launched a successful line of pork scratchings and chestnut beer and rounded out his bon vivant nature by co-founding the Quintessentially group. Eddie Hart credits family holidays in Mallorca at his mother’s childhood home for the ongoing love of Spanish food that laid the foundations of his restaurant empire. With brother Sam (the pair are sons of hotelier and restaurateur Tim Hart), he’s opened feted tapas joints Fino and Barrafina, top-flight taqueria El Pastor at Borough Market, polished up Great Dame of Dean Street Quo Vadis, owns hot-as-a-plancha casual diner El Camino in Palma and recently popped a few corks at the opening of his new wine bar the Drop in King’s Cross.

What's on the menu?

An indulgent long weekend in the Mallorcan capital with a top-name food critic and restaurateur, including a stay at one of our newest boutique hotels in Palma, yacht rides to Sóller, market tours and culinary masterclasses.

Friday 7 June

A car will be waiting to pick you up at the airport. After check-in at Can Bordoy you’ll join hosts Tom and Eddie in the hotel’s foliage-fringed, orange-scented garden for evening aperitifs and a private dinner.

Saturday 8 June

After breakfast, Tom, Eddie and his team of El Camino chefs will show you the abundance of the Mercat de l’Olivar, Mallorca’s largest food market. They'll tell stories of the ingredients they love and the recipes they inspire and lead you on an all-important cava tasting with tapas in a charming wine bodega. With thirsts quenched, it’s backstage at El Camino to make your own masterpiece meal in a class compered by Tom, before retiring to Can Bordoy.

Sunday 9 June

To Sóller and all aboard the port's most picture-perfect mini-fleet of artfully restored fishing boats for a memorable trip to a hidden cove, plus cava, tapas and a spell of Spanish guitar served at sea. A lavish, languid lunch will be held at the island's most secluded sea-view restaurant, followed by a gentle swim or some R’n’R, before anchors up.

Monday 10 June

After polishing off a fruit-and-honeycomb-laced yoghurt, stack of oatmeal pancakes and sobrassada-spiked eggs at breakfast, you’ll fold up your napkin, tuck in your chair and await your ride to the airport.

Flights aren't included, but we'll happily book these for you. Call us on 0330 100 3180 to find out more. Once on the island you’ll be chauffeured from the airport and to excursions beyond Palma.
