Photography enthusiasts can follow local insider Dotan Saguy to capture the frenetic energy of Los Angeles’ famed Venice Beach.
You’ll wind your way along the boardwalk – past muscle-bound types, roller skaters, street performers and bikini-clad sun worshippers – learning how to stealthily snap colourful characters to create dynamic photos. There’s rarely a dull moment on this famous strip of seafront, and you’ll learn to think on your feet to capture worthy-of-framing scenes.
Israel-born Dotan Saguy grew up in a diverse working-class Parisian suburb, then lived in Lower Manhattan and moved to Los Angeles in 2003. In his past working life, Dotan was a successful tech entrepreneur, but in 2015 he shifted his focus to his passion for photography, attending the prestigious Eddie Adams Workshop and studying photojournalism at Santa Monica College. His award-winning photographs have been published by National Geographic, the Guardian and the Los Angeles Times; his first book – on the gritty culture of Venice Beach – was released in 2018.
