Wats and Shots – a photographic journey through Siem Reap

Join photographer Geoff Greenwood on a tour of Siem Reap’s lesser-seen wats and temples, capturing shots that would normally be left to the locals.

As the crowds flock to Angkor Wat, Geoff will take you in the opposite direction, leading you to smaller, quieter sites that offer unique photo opportunities. Tailoring the trip to your interests, he’ll take you to some of his favourite spots in and around town, imparting knowledge and offering hands-on instruction all the while. With his guidance, you’ll leave with a gallery’s worth of shots that’ll be the envy of less-in-the-know travellers.

Photographer

Geoff Greenwood is a British-Australian commercial photographer who has spent the last four years in Siem Reap shooting everything from haute hotels to luscious landscapes. When he’s not snapping for major brands, he loves to share his passion for photography and his insider knowledge of Angkor Wat by leading private tours for keen photographers, guiding them away from the crowds to capture incredible images of the ancient monument at the best times of day.

Capture the lesser-seen side of Siem Reap as you photograph hidden temples, wats and pagodas, capturing monks and locals as they go about their day.

Where you'll go
Having met you at your hotel, Geoff will take you to Wat Bo, one of the oldest pagodas in Siem Reap and a goldmine for architectural shots. Afterwards, you’ll journey to another picturesque pagoda that’s usually a hive of monk activity. Next up is a 12th-century Hindu temple on the outskirts of town, where religious ceremonies are commonplace; with advance warning, Geoff can arrange a private water blessing from a Cambodian monk (for a small donation). At the end of the tour, he’ll drop you back at your hotel.
What you'll learn
Geoff usually starts in the centre of town, moving towards the outskirts later in the morning. That said, he’s very flexible with the route, and likes to tailor trips to whatever his clients are most interested in. If you’re into street photography, he’ll take you to bustling markets and buzzy areas; if you’re eager for architecture, you’ll spend more time seeking out Siem Reap’s most beautiful buildings. Wherever you go, he’ll point out opportunities and offer constructive criticism to ensure you get the most out of your time together.
