When to go

Pucón’s abundantly green landscape is down to its mild, rainy climate. Water-shy travellers should visit in summer, between October and March, when it gets warmer and the showers begin subside (but don’t expect to be the only one – especially in crowded February).

Getting there

  • Planes

Pucón Airport is closed in low-season, so getting to Pucón varies year-round. In high season (which runs from the end of December until late February) American Airlines, LAN Airlines and Sky Airlines provide direct, daily flights from Santiago International Airport to Pucón Airport. The rest of the year, American Airlines, LAN Airlines and Brazilian Airlines fly from Santiago International Airport to Temuco Airport, a two-hour drive away from Pucón.
  • Automobiles

Driving from Santiago to Pucón takes around eight hours, but be prepared for several tolls on the Ruta 5; roads are generally well-kept and in good shape.
