When to go

Animal lovers should visit between May and October, when female sea-turtles take to the land to lay their eggs for the coming season. You may want to steer clear of the island between June and September. Late November through to July is the safest bet for calm, dry conditions.

  Fly into Ho Chi Minh City Airport (www.hochiminhcityairport.com), and take a 40-minute flight south with the Vietnam Air Services Company to tiny Con Dao airport, on the island of Con Son.
