When to go

Sun-seekers and late-night revellers may want to aim for high season (from mid-May to September), but we prefer the warm weather (and off-peak prices) of spring and autumn. The windsurfing season runs from May to early November, with the Alaçatı Windsurfing Festival held every July.

Getting there

• Planes

  İzmir Airport is under an hour’s drive away. Direct seasonal flights are available from European hubs including London Gatwick and London Stansted. Otherwise, hop on an hour-long domestic connection from Istanbul.

• Automobiles

  It’s around a 50-minute drive from İzmir and five hours from Istanbul. If beach-hopping and vineyard-touring is on your agenda, hiring a car at the airport is wise. Otherwise, Alaçatı’s old town is easy to navigate on foot.
