Luxury holidays in Stockholm
When to go
In winter, the city gets just five hours of daylight, but is magical under a blanket of snow. Summer brings jubilant scenes of schnapps and seafood, though July can be quiet as locals head to their summer-island homes and many restaurants close.
PlanesArlanda airport is 40km from the centre. From there, Flygbussarna and Swebus both connect with the city centre in 45 minutes. If you end up flying into Skavsta airport, a bus into Stockholm takes 90 minutes.
TrainsThe Arlanda Express train takes you into Stockholm Central station in a snappy 20 minutes. From here you can access Stockholm’s underground, the Tunnelbana; the city’s very walkable, though, so you may not need it.
AutomobilesTaxis are readily available. A car is only an advantage if you want to leave the city centre. Otherwise, you can reach everything on two feet or two wheels.
TaxisYou can hail cabs on the street; taxi's aren't cheap but they do, handily, accept payment by debit and credit card (including AmEx).
