When to go

July and August in Noto can be stiflingly hot. Instead, opt for spring and autumn for milder (though still pleasantly balmy) climes with a fraction the crowd.

Getting there

  • Planes

Catania Fontanarossa Airport is closest, with direct flights from the UK and mainland Europe. From here, it takes just over two hours by train to reach Noto central (via Syracuse), or an hour by car.
  • Automobiles

Noto is compact and easily walkable, but if you plan on exploring the rest of the Val di Noto province and its trio of Baroque cities (Noto, Modica, Ragusa), a car is recommended. Roads are generally in good condition, though take care to leave the car outside any historical centre, where roads tend to be narrow and parking spots are few.
