Luxury holidays in Santorini

From the indigo waters of the caldera to the snowdrifts of cliff-hugging cubist villas, Santorini’s beauty today is as dramatic as its volcanic genesis. Along the croissant-shaped coast, take your pick from sugar-white sands, black beaches, terracotta cliffs and quiet coves. Shop the chic boutiques of Oia, track down a blue-domed church, eat some just-landed seafood, then settle into a hilltop taverna in time for a front-row view of that legendary sunset.

When to go

High season runs from April to October, when the island is perfect for beach days and party nights. You might struggle to find somewhere to stay the rest of the year, but visit either end of the season for a taste of the real Cyclades.

Getting there

  • Planes

Santorini’s airport is a handy 10 minutes by car from Fira, the island’s capital. Flights connecting via Athens touch down there from European cities including London, Manchester, Paris, Milan, Rome and Frankfurt, as well as some direct options from London.
  • Boats

Regular ferries run between the island’s main port, Athinios, and Piraeus, near Athens. From there, it’s a wiggly nine-kilometer drive to Fira.
  • Automobiles

Hiring a car is a must if you want to explore all the island has to offer. Find free parking outside Oia and Fira.
  • Taxis

Order one by phone or pick one up at a designated rank.
