When to go

May to September is usually considered the best time to visit the Daintree Rainforest with dry and mild temperatures. Despite the sticky climate, the temperature here remains fairly clement courtesy of the tree’s protective canopy.

Getting there

  • Planes

The nearest international airport is Cairns, a two-hour drive north of the Daintree Rainforest. To reach the heart of this Wet Tropics World Heritage site you’ll have to catch a 10-minute ferry from Port Douglas across the Daintree River.
  • Automobiles

Given the 80 kilometres of coastline that makes up the Daintree, renting a car is one of the best ways to explore every inch of this picturesque destination. The road is accessible until Cape Tribulation, where you’ll then need a four-wheel drive to get through the rainforest to Cooktown. Alternatively, ditch the car and explore the rare beauty and ecosystems of the rainforest on foot with a self-guided tour along the marked boardwalks.
