Luxury holidays in Chitwan National Park

When to go

Avoid the park in monsoon season (June to October), when rivers flood and safaris are off the cards.

Getting there

  • Planes

Regular 20-minute flights from Kathmandu touch down in Bharatpur. From there, it’s a 20-kilometre taxi ride to Sauraha, the main town and gateway to the park.
  • Boats

Feeling adventurous? Take a day or two to raft to the park from Mugling, midway between Kathmandu and Pokhara, along the Trisuli and Narayani rivers. You’ll be treated to jaw-dropping views and secret sandy beaches that road users will never even know about.
  • Automobiles

Regular tourist buses from Kathmandu make the roughly six-hour journey to Sauraha a doddle; buses also run from Pokhara and take about the same time. Alternatively, hire a car in Kathmandu and take on the drive yourself.
