When to go

Windhoek’s climate makes it a year-round destination, but its altitude means that nights (and some winter days) can drop into I-wish-I-had-my-thermals territory. It’s warmest (and wettest) from December to March, but pleasant and drier from May to October.

Getting there

  • Planes

Direct flights from the United Kingdom, South Africa and select European cities land at Chief Hosea Kutako International Airport; from there, it’s about a 45-minute drive to Windhoek East.
  • Automobiles

Windhoek is the crossroads of Namibia – the main north–south route (the B1) and east–west routes (B2 and B6) cross there. Roads are clearly signposted and you’ll pass beautiful desert hills on the way into the city.
