When to go

Marylebone is an all-year-rounder; showers offer an excellent excuse to take shelter in its well-heeled pubs and eateries. Around Christmastime it takes on a Dickensian air with twinkly lights and nooks to get cosy in.

Getting there

  • Planes

From Heathrow, hop on the express train to Paddington, then simply change onto the Bakerloo line for one stop to Baker Street. From Gatwick, ride the express to Victoria, then take the Victoria Line to Oxford Circus and the Bakerloo to Baker Street. Depending on the cases you’re lugging, it’s a more economical and fairly fuss-free way to reach central London; a taxi ride will take around 90 minutes from either hub.
  • Automobiles

Marylebone is in the Congestion Charge zone and parking is something of a chore, so it’s best to rely on Tubes, buses and pavement-pounding for exploring; you’re within strolling distance of many big-ticket London attractions. If wheels are essential, there are car-hire booths at either airport and a Q-Park and NCP close to Marylebone’s action.
