Luxury holidays in Vico Equense

Vico Equense has the winning formula for an Italian holiday: it's close to Naples’ see-and-die sights (Pompeii, Vesuvius and the Monte Faito), and the ferry port for jaunts to Capri. Plus, Sorrento is just a 15-minute drive away. Yet this clifftop coastal town with spectacular views out across the Bay of Naples and Sorrentine Peninsula has been kept on the DL, which is even more surprising when you consider all it has to offer. There’s one of the highest concentrations of Michelin-starred and gourmet dining restaurants – La Torre del Saracino is especially lauded for its takes on fish – pizza is served by the metre and the multitude of farm estates situated in the surrounding hills make for very fine dining. The cliff-edge Cathedral of Santa Maria Annnunziata makes for dramatic pictures, nearby Scrajo has soothing thermal baths and art lovers will find small churches with big-deal frescoes in the countryside.

When to go

The climate stays mild all year round, but from April through to October the weather is wonderfully temperate for swims and spa baths.
