Luxury holidays in Haut-Médoc

When to go

Summer is balmy but attracts the largest crowds, and some châteaux close in August when the locals head off on their hols. Autumn is quieter and has the benefit of just-right weather, but many châteaux close for the harvest – if you can find one that doesn’t, it’s not an experience to miss.

Getting there

  • Planes

Fly into Bordeaux–Mérignac Airport from a host of European cities. From there, it’s under two hours by car.
  • Trains

Forget the flights and breeze across the Channel by Eurostar to Paris or Lille. The TGV links both terminals to Bordeaux.
  • Automobiles

Hire some wheels to château-hop through Haut-Médoc, and to explore the other impressive appellations it counts as next-door neighbours.
