When to go

Playa Grande’s climate is mostly tropical. To take advantage of the beaches, visit between December and April to avoid the rainy season, which could put a dampener on sunbathing.

    Playa Grande’s closest airport is Puerto Plata Gregorio Luperón International, which is just over a 30-minute drive away. As there are no direct flights from the UK, fly with British Airways for the comfiest stopovers in American cities like New York and Miami.

    Hire a car from Avis at the airport and drive yourself to Playa Grande via Route 5. Getting a car is especially useful if you plan to explore some of the other beaches in the area.
