When to go

This far east (just beneath Turkey and close to the Lebanon), there are no less than 300 days of sunshine a year, so there's no bad time to go. Wildflower blooms and fresh breezes makes March–May perfect for more active breaks, whereas die-hard beach bums may prefer the mercury-swelling summer. Either way, from spring until autumn, you can generally count on warm days and blue skies.

Getting there

  • Planes

Paphos airport is the most convenient, about 40 minutes' drive from Polis, Latchi and the Akamas, with regular budget flights from the UK. Larnaca is further – 185km away – but more frequently served by scheduled flights from across Europe. You'll need to arrange a transfer, or hire a car, to get to your hotel.
  • Boats

There are currently no passenger or car ferry services to southern Cyprus; flying is your only option.
  • Automobiles

Driving is easy on Cyprus, which has decent roads and where traffic drives on the left (as it does in the UK). If you are staying longer than a few days, and having some indepence is important to you, you'll want a hire car – there are plenty of rental companies at both airports. Polis is well signed from Paphos; from there, head to Latchi and follow the road signposted for the Baths of Aphrodite.
