When to go

Visit in summer to experience the region in full swing, or spring, if you prefer softer sun rays. If grapes are your thing, harvest time in the wine districts of Konavle and the Pelješac Peninsula make for a particularly pleasant autumnal experience.

Getting there

  • Planes

The region has international airports in Dubrovnik, Split and Zadar with connecting flights from Zagreb. Catamaran, boat and ferry services run between selected islands several times a day.
  • Automobiles

With patchy transport links outside the main cities, driving is a great way to reach lesser-known towns like Zadar and Šibenik. Though motorways in the region are fairly new and easy to navigate, the scenic (but slower) route is recommended. Take the Jadranska magistrala, or The Adriatic Highway, for a journey of white-knuckle twists and turns and unforgettable clifftop vistas.
