When to go

We think Bruges is best in late October or early November, when the summer crowds are gone, the Christmas market crowds are yet to arrive and you can cosy up in a snug pub with a hot chocolate. It’s an enduringly popular weekend city-break destination so, if you can, visit during the week for quieter streets and museums.

Getting there

  • Planes

Brussels airport, a 90-minute drive away, is the main international hub.
  • Trains

Bruges station runs frequent services to Antwerp, Ghent and Brussels, where you can catch the Eurostar to London. If you're taking the train, travel light to save on taxis: the city centre is only 20 minutes’ walk from the station.
