When to go

May to September typically enjoy the warmest weather, with August reaching highs of 30°C. Those planning on sticking to the town may consider heading to Aljezur during December, when the Christmas markets are in full swing and gentle yellow fairy lights illuminate the cascading cobbled streets.

Getting there

  • Planes

The nearest international airport is Faro, just over an hour's drive from Aljezur. Jump in a taxi or rent a car from the airport and head northwest along the Algarve’s cerulean coast to reach the town.
  • Trains

If you have a little more time on your hands, take a train from Faro Airport for an hour and a half along the south coast to Portimao. From there, hop on a 55-minute bus through São Sebastião to Aljezur.
  • Automobiles

Though you may not need it once you reach the town, a car is a great choice to reach Aljezur from Faro and can also be helpful if you’re hoping to beach hop during your trip. Pick up and drop off your rental car at Faro Airport.
