When to go

Temperatures in Adelaide Hills are typically between five and seven degrees cooler than down in the plains. In fact, summer here (December to February) is beautifully sunny, but typically cooler than anywhere else in South Australia – air is lung-filling and crisp in comparison to the desert-hot temperatures closer to the coast.

Getting there

  • Planes

Adelaide is Australia’s fifth-biggest city with a slick international airport. Qantas, Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific (among others) serve Adelaide from overseas. Domestic flights (Qantas, Virgin Blue, Tiger and Jetstar) wing in from around Australia. The airport is around 45-minutes from the Hills, but this varies depending on which leafy grove you’re headed to.
  • Automobiles

Cars come in very handy here, especially if you’re wanting to venture to further afield botanic gardens, truffle farms and national parks. Hire wheels at Adelaide airport. There are plenty of vineyards within driving distance, but we’d recommend asking your hotel to arrange a taxi to and from those – because, well, wine.
