When to go
Italy is bellissima in late spring and early summer – book for the beginning of June to enjoy the sunny climes of Capri, without sweltering in the cities.
Most major airlines run frequent flights to Venice Marco Polo Airport, the starting-point for your trip. All transfers – and inland journeys – in an air-conditioned, chauffeured car, are included in the trip. On departure, your driver will drop you off at Rome Fiumicino for your flight home or to your next destination.
- A camera for capturing those all-important – totally spontaneous – couple shots
- An Italian phrasebook (for whispering sweet nothings)
- Silk pyjamas for in-room lounging
- Trainers for gondola-hopping and Vespa-driving
- Skimpy swimwear to match Capri’s designer-conscious crowd
Day 1–2: Venice
Water you waiting for? A city as synonymous with romance as Romeo with Juliet, Antony with Cleopatra, Posh with Becks: Venice is a no-brainer for amorous couples. You’ll be whisked by private water taxi to Palazzo Venart for two nights in classic Venetian splendour.
Let glamorous, 16th-century stay Palazzo Venart woo you with its twinkling chandeliers, velvet-swagged bedrooms and canalside location. It’s neighbours with the Natural History Museum and the Museum of Modern Art, so you’re in remarkably good (and cultured) company.
Smith Extra Aperitivo for two
Day 1: After settling in to your palatial room, you’ll have time for an apéritif in the gardens, perhaps before dinner with your angelo at the hotel’s aptly-named Glam restaurant.
Day 2: After a day spent exploring the Floating City – including a personal guide-led trip to the Gallerie dell’Accademia – you’ll embark on on a private gondola tour with prosecco and cicchetti (traditional Venetian snacks).
Day 3: Enjoy your last morning in Venice with breakfast in St Mark’s Square: have coffee with baicoli (sweet, crisp biscuits). Then, you’ll leave for Tuscany, your next destination.
Day 3–6: Tuscany
A private, air-conditioned car will take you on the four-hour journey south, where you’ll stay for the next three nights at the Monteverdi estate in lavender-scented luxury.
Everything at the romantic, cedar tree-lined Monteverdi estate is built with couples in mind: there are private gardens, cosy suites with wood-burning stoves, and an intimate bar with a wine list as enticing as your beloved – so you can really love the wine you’re with…
Smith Extra A glass of prosecco and a selection of local cheeses and meats at Enoteca
Day 3: Make yourself at home before supper at Oreade, the hotel’s restaurant: you’ll be served the freshest pasta on a sun-bleached, flower-filled terrace.
Day 4: Today, we've arranged truffle-hunting in the hills for you and your fellow Smith, and a tour around the dedicated Truffle Museum, before a cookery class where you'll learn how to turn your spoils into Tuscan feasts with the help of an expert chef.
Day 5: A guide-led trip to Chianti and lunch at restaurant Rinuccio 1180 is your treat for the day, alongside a private tour of the eatery's wine cellars and a tasting session of the renowned Antinori wines.
Day 6: On your last morning in Tuscany, don’t forget to pick up the local stars to take home with you (namely, bottles of wine and olive oil) before you’re Rome-ward bound.
Day 6–8: Rome
You’ll be taken by car on the two-hour journey from Monteverdi to Italy’s capital city, where you’ll experience Rome like a local (scion) at historic boutique stay Residenza Napoleone III.
An opulent, brocade-draped set of private suites for the seriously sybaritic, Residenza Napoleone III will host you for two evenings. Butlers and beauty treatments can all be arranged on request – all you need to do is ask.
Smith Extra A bottle of Anagallis wine from the Ruspoli family's vineyard in Chianti, plus late check-out if availability allows
Day 6: Order a classic Negroni to your room, for an intimate cocktail à deux. After all, it’s a mere hop, skip and a jump from Rome, to Roman, to Romance – yes, with a capital ‘R’…
Day 7: Do it like the locals and explore the Eternal City on a private, half-day Vespa tour (included in your package) around the famous sights, led by our in-the-know guide.
Day 8: Today, you’ll leave Rome to head to sunnier climes – before you leave, get some couple shots in front of the Colosseum, the Pantheon and the Trevi.
Day 8–11: Capri
Reach sun-drenched Capri, the final stop on your couples’ Grand Tour, by private car and shared catamaran (a four-hour journey). You’ll stay at JK Place Capri – a Fellini film in hotel form – for three nights before heading home.
Make nauti(cal) but nice at JK Place Capri, a snow-white suntrap surrounded by a landscape as colourful as any artist’s palette: a lacquered-blue bay; sunshine-yellow lemon trees and groves of dark, juicy olives – this landscape could inspire any grand masterpiece.
