Don’t let The Thatched Barn’s 13th-century facade deceive you – inside, this conversion is a thoroughly modern affair, with innovative light installations, a lofty, open-plan living space, and five boldly boutique double rooms. The Somerset setting is dazzlingly pretty, with plenty of pubs and pursuits on your doorstep.

  • Rates information Weekend stays are from £2,490, going up to £3,995 for three nights. Mid-week stays are £1,200 per night; weekend stays are £1,500 per night. Four-night stays over Christmas and New Year are £4,850. Week-long stays from £3,995.

  • Grounds The surroundings are stunning – the living area has French doors that lead out onto a terrace overlooking a lake, and from the kitchen, guests can access the pretty country garden and barbecue area.

  • Booking process A third of the hire price will be taken as a booking deposit; the remainder must be paid no later than six weeks before arrival. A Smith deposit is also required upon booking.
  • Also Well-behaved pets can stay free with at least 24 hours’ notice. Dog bowls can be provided. Smokers can light up on the terrace or in the garden. In October and November, guests can take advantage of the property's two-nights-for-the-price-of-one offer.

    Master bedroom The main double has a mezzanine overlooking the living area, separated from the space below by a wooden balustrade. It has a black decorative bed frame and a feature wall of leaf-print wallpaper.

  • Kitchen

    The galley kitchen is small but perfectly stocked, kitted out with all the essentials, including a large range cooker. White units, black marble worktops and a monochrome tiled floor keeps things sleek; the original exposed wooden beams on the ceilings are a reminder of the building’s age. There is a glass breakfast table with seats for four by the windows.

  • Living room

    Indisputably the heart of the house: an open-plan, loft-style space, with a lofty ceiling, wooden floors and brown leather sofas. Original exposed beams are set against the white walls; contemporary light fittings hanging from the walls add some art-gallery cool. There’s a small wood-burning stove with an exposed, ceiling-height chrome chimney.

  • Dining room

    The open-plan living area has a dining area with a vast table.

  • Other

    French doors in the living room lead on to a small terrace overlooking a little lake – it’s the perfect spot for pre-dinner drinks or lazy mornings perusing the papers.

  • Poolside There’s no pool, but if your friends are staying at the Manor next door, go for a dip in theirs.
  • Gardens The pretty country garden has a small lake.
