Temple Guiting Manor

Cotswolds, United Kingdom

Style Party-perfect manor house

Setting Green, serene Cotswolds

At first glance, Temple Guiting Manor may seem like a typical rural retreat, with its stately Tudor façade, idyllic countryside setting, and romantic bedrooms. But this stylish manor house is more Bond than bumpkin, having been designed with chic house parties and fabulous county pursuits in mind. The glamorous dining room, beautiful grounds and cosy living rooms make for a luxurious party venue, and the owners can recommend local chefs, so all you need worry about is what to wear. And if you’ve ever wanted a cookery class with Mark Hix, a make-up tutorial with Ruby Hammer, or a poker lesson with a professional card-shark, here’s your chance – Sophie Conran renovated the barn next door, enlisting a host of celebrity experts to offer courses for guests (prices upon request).

Floor plan

  • Bedrooms

The three doubles on the first floor are chic and cosy, with original Tudor timber doors, mediaeval arched leaded windows, exposed beams, wooden floors and understated, off-white walls. There’s a feminine room decorated in soft, neutral tones, with blush-pink accents, views of the garden, and a modern ensuite bathroom. Another double has an open fire and dark wood four-poster, dressed with a plump quilt. This romantic room has lovely views, an elegant chaise longue and a family-size bathroom next door. The final double on the first floor has a large Cotswold stone fireplace, and a pretty bed, dressed with a taupe and blue throw. The small bathroom is painted in white, with exposed beams. A secret doorway reveals a stone spiral staircase that leads to the downstairs sitting room. There are also two rooms in the attic – a twin room set in the eaves, with Cotswold stone walls and cosy cream and brown throws, and a double room accessed via the playroom, decorated in cream.

  • Kitchen

The kitchen is a small but sleek space, with all the mod cons, including a large stainless steel oven and hob. It’s designed with practicality first, boasting granite surfaces and slate and tile flooring, but there is a small, round table, should you wish to nibble your snack or meal here.
  • Living room

There are two living rooms – one small and cosy, with a flagstone floor, an inglenook fire with a wood-burning stove, exposed beams and elegant George Smith sofas. A small spiral staircase leads up to one of the bedrooms and there is an adjoining snug with a TV. The main living room is a larger, more grand affair, with dusky green velvet George Smith sofas, a huge fireplace with a log fire, wooden floors, white walls, a fabulous French crystal chandelier (the owner has an extensive collection) and walls hung with paintings.
  • Dining room

The large games room doubles up as the dining room, with the full-size snooker table providing an unusual dining table. The room has a traditional, masculine Tudor feel, with wood aplenty: chairs carved from dark wood, a wooden floor, and an arched ceiling hung with mediaeval flags and crossed with sturdy beams.
  • Gardens

The beautiful sprawling gardens, planted with lavender, roses and wild flowers, are spread across 14 acres, with breathtaking views of the rolling fields and lake.
  • Private parking

You can park your car on the private driveway.
