Le Sarrail is a trio of houses set in the countryside of Southern France, beautifully backed by mountains and vineyards. Recently converted, they have applied an edginess and an attention to detail rarely visible in such affordable self-catering properties geared to young families.

  • Booking process A 30 per cent deposit is taken on booking. The full balance must be paid eight weeks before arrival.
  • Also No smoking. The owners have a dog and three cats, so they prefer guests not to bring pets.

Floor plan

  • The vineyard location of these hip-as-holiday-houses-get vacation rentals couldn't be more rural, but the interior design's blend of retro and edgy couldn't be more urbane.
  • Bedrooms

    Maison Cypres has four bedrooms that can accommodate up to eight. Upstairs, there are two master bedrooms with king-size beds and ensuite bathrooms, a twin room and a bedroom with bunk beds, and a family bathroom with a sunken bath.

    Maison Citron has three bedrooms that can sleep six. It has a master bedroom with French windows and an ensuite, a large twin bedroom and a third room with bunk beds.

    Maison Figue sleeps up to five people in three bedrooms. The master bedroom and twin room have French windows and wrought-iron balustrades that open out to views of the countryside and gardens. It also has a single bedroom.

  • Kitchen

    The spacious kitchens are fully equipped with a dishwasher, microwave and fridge.
  • Living room

    The open-plan lounge areas have wood-burning stoves. Maison Cypres has high ceilings and lots of natural light, with huge French windows opening out to the countryside and mountains.
  • Dining room

    Each house has a zinc-topped dining table and chic concreting or stylish tiling.
  • Poolside

    There’s a big swimming pool with a child-proof gate, which is shared between the guest houses. This overlooks unadulterated countryside.
  • Gardens

    Maison Cypres has a terrace overlooking the hilltop village, Montréal. Maison Figue and Maison Citron can be interconnected via their ground-floor terraces. There is also a trampoline and play house for the kids.
  • Other

    There's a big, covered but open-air space which is perfect for hosting parties or celebrations. It looks out across the rolling hills to the Pyrenees.

Eating and drinking

Milk, bread, coffee and tea are provided for arrival. Organic, traditional French meals can be delivered (along with baby food), picked from a menu of foie gras, rabbit and guinea fowl. Birthday cakes and party food can be arranged.

Housekeeping

End-of-stay cleaning is included in the rates. There will be a mid-stay clean for guests staying two weeks. Extra cleaning can be arranged in between for a cost.

Entertainment

There’s a flatscreen TV, DVD selection, CD player and CD selection, iPod dock, radio and WiFi throughout.
