Getting there

• Planes Gold Coast Airport (www.goldcoastairport.com.au), at Coolangatta, is 48 kilometres away or 45 minutes' by car. You can also fly into Ballina/Byron Airport (www.ncas.com.au) at Byron Bay, 99 kilometres away, or about a 55-minute drive. There are regular flights from all major Australian cities to both airports with Jetstar (www.jetstar.com.au) and Virgin Blue (www.virginblue.com.au). Brisbane Airport (www.bne.com.au) is further away, but a possibility if you're up for a longer drive.

• Automobiles From Brisbane, take the Pacific Motorway south for approximately 45 minutes towards the Gold Coast until exit 69 Nerang (north), and follow signs to Nerang North. Pass Nerang North shopping centre, following signs to Murwillumbah and Nerang/Murwillumbah Road. Cross the border into New South Wales and carry on through Chillingham village. After approximately two and a half miles turn left on Upper Crystal Creek Road, continue for another three miles, then turn left on to Brookers Road. Crystal Creek Rainforest is just over a mile from here. The final half mile of road is gravel and expect to cross a number of roads with shallow water. The journey time for the 123-kilometre drive is approximately one hour and forty minutes.
