For those craving self-catering solitude in a rural setting, both the ancient stone cottage and the 16th-century farmhouse suite tucked away on Court Farm are the answer. Steeped in history, then redefined with high-design, up-to-the-second styling, the cottage and suite can be booked together, or taken separately. Raucous family gathering on a farm – or remote and luxurious escape à deux… It’s up to you.

- Rates information Cottage: £215–£240 a night; £590–£690 for three nights; £675–£790 for four nights; £1,250–£1,460 for seven nights. The Farm House bedroom sleeps two, and starts from £105 a night; the Attic Suite is £170–£190 a night.
- Ideal for Familes, friends or couples in the Cottage, and couples seeking solace in the Attic Suite.
- Sleeps The Cottage sleeps 4 the Farm House room sleeps 2, The Barn Room sleeps 2 ; the Attic Suite sleeps an additional 2 (and has space for 2 additional single beds).
- Property style Converted stables Cottage (plus a rustic Attic Suite above the farmhouse).
- Grounds Sitting alongside a 16th-century farmhouse, the cottage and the attic suite enjoy 10 acres of farmland.
- Minimum hire Minimum hire is one night, but the owners are flexible: you can hire the barn for the day, subject to availability.
- Children A travel cot is provided, plus stair guards and low window opening restrictions. Babysitting and childminding can be arranged with a local service that the family use. Note: there is a deep duck pond in the grounds.
- Booking process Pay a non-refundable 50 per cent deposit on booking, with the balance due no less than three weeks before arrival. Smith deposit taken when you book.
- Also There is a Nintendo Wii in the Cottage, and also a games room in the grounds.
Floor plan
- The Cottage is on two floors, with a living room and kitchen/diner on the ground floor, and two en-suite bedrooms upstairs. The kitchen also opens through onto a huge converted barn, which can be rented with the Cottage, or separately. The Attic Suite is above the main farmhouse and comprises of one large master bedroom with bathroom and a living room. The living room can easily be made into a second double bedroom.

Attic Suite
Bedroom: Master bedroom with exposed beams, an enormous ‘bed station’ and adjacent bathroom. - Kitchen Guests of the Cottage have access to a gleaming, white, fully equipped kitchen that sits incongruously beneath ancient exposed beams. A massive Rangemaster oven with fancy blue-strip lighting sits next to a dishwasher and washer/dryer. For self-catering supplies, see our ‘Services’ section.
- Living room The Cottage’s living room is a modern space with a Bang & Olufsen TV, DVD, CD and Sky+. The doors of this former stable building open onto the sunny inner courtyard, while a wood-burning stove in the corner of the room make this the ideal cosy winter hideaway, too. The renovated barn adjacent to the Cottage – with its three sofas, wood-burning stove and Bang & Olufsen TV – can be used as a second living room. The Attic Suite’s living room has more of a rustic feel, and includes a feature fireplace and shaggy rug. Though positively pristine, it still screams luxury.
- Dining room A granite dining table for six in the modern kitchen space opens out onto the inner courtyard.
- Gardens The Cottage leads onto a private, inner courtyard with lawn, while both the Attic Suite above the farmhouse and the Cottage sit within 10 acres of farmland, complete with pigs, chickens, ducks and sheep.
- Private parking There is ample private parking for plenty of cars.

In the know
Eating and drinking
The cottage has a granite dining table for six in the kitchen, offering views across the pretty courtyard. There is also a larger dining table for 12 in the barn next to the cottage. The owner James, famed for his kedgeree, can cook for you – or a local chef or catering company can be brought in. The Attic Suite is not self-catering. If you are not part of the Cottage’s party, and therefore do not have access to its kitchen, you can order breakfast in the Aga-warm farmhouse kitchen for £14.50 a person.A private chef can be arranged for you or, if you’re very lucky, owner James will offer up his culinary services and cook dinner for guests in the Cottage, or next door in the adjacent barn.

A mid-stay clean can be arranged for an extra charge of £30.
Entertainment
A Bang & Olufsen TV in the Cottage’s living room plays CDs. The TV in the Attic Suite does not play DVDs or CDs, but has Sky+, including radio. The converted barn adjacent to the Cottage (which can also be rented) is ideal for hen weekends and pamper parties. Local therapists can provide spa treatments, including hot-stone therapies either in the Cottage or its barn.
