The Guestbook
We had a wonderful weekend at Whatley Manor. The staff and service were superb and we really felt like guests. Dinner in the main restaurant was amazing, as were the pre-dinner cocktails. We'd recommend that you have breakfast in bed – the Swiss-style breakfast room was really out of keeping with the rest of the hotel and we didn't enjoy eating in there to be honest, the breakfast was pretty poor and they added a £10 supplement for any cooked breakfast beyond eggs or a full English breakfast. On our second evening, we ventured out and had dinner at the Potting Shed, a lovely pub about 15 minutes away, where we had another excellent meal.

It was amazing. If you decide to visit Malmesbury, book a table at the Smoking Dog. It is always busy, and has nice food. Malmesbury is a very traditional area worth exploring. The spa at the hotel is amazing.

What a beautiful hotel. Lovely spa and blissful treatments. The main restaurant was great too. We weren't so keen on the Swiss-style brasserie as it didn't seem to fit with the rest of the place. It's not a cheap option but we would love to go back when we have the time and money.

Another fantastic stay at Whatley – our second in two years. This time we ate at the lovely Vine Tree pub, a five-minute drive away – we thoroughly recommend it. It might not look like much when you go inside – very pubby – but the food is amazing. The real selling factor to this hotel is the amazing spa and the very attentive staff. My only gripe would be that if you are fussy about your tea, bring your own tea bags.

Whatley Manor is a sanctuary a world away from your world – from the minute you pull up outside their gates to the moment you leave (in a state of relaxed bliss), you feel treated and pampered, whether it's thanks to their expert massages (I'm yet to find an equal hot-stone massage anywhere), their delicious cocktails and wine, diving into a rich and delicious fondue, or sleeping like a log in their sumptuous beds.

This was to be a romantic weekend away with good food and lots of pampering. At the end of the weekend the only comment was: "the best hotel that I have ever stayed at". Full marks to Whatley Manor from the accommodation, restaurants, Spa and in particular how welcoming the staff made us feel.
Thoroughly recommend Whatley Manor for any Mr and Mrs Smithers.

The Dining Room at Whatley Manor HAS to be experienced at least once during a stay there (absolutely superb), but for a great meal out of the hotel, just a few miles along the road at Malmesbury, do try "2A". Excellent British cuisine and very reasonably price... delicious food, nice atmosphere and very good value.

We had a lovely lunch in Tetbury at The Chef's Table. The ground-floor dining area is full of character and the food was a welcome mix of innovative and hearty. We started with a generous charcuterie platter to share. Main courses were an excellent chicken kiev and roasted cod in a flavourful sauce on creamy mash. The piece de resistance was the tasty pudding. Pistachio creme brulee with a bowl of warm strawberries and ice cream in a milky foam was as much fun to look at as it was to eat. Highly recommended.

We arrived early evening, ate in the lovely Le Mazot restaurant (delicious), used the spa (wonderful!), ate breakfast the following morning, another spa session, then wandered round the beautiful gardens. Who needs to find a local restaurant or pub?
