The Guestbook
Take the stress out of organising tours of the temples by asking the helpful front desk staff at Viroth's Hotel to arrange your guide and transport. Our qualified guide was friendly and knowledgeable and made sure we missed the crowds. They can book a car or tuk-tuk but we chose the latter, which made it easy to take photos on the move. Round off the day with a chilled beer or cocktail – we loved the Angkor Sunset in the hotel's rooftop bar. Cool off in the jacuzzi. Viroth's restaurant, with its atmospheric outdoor terrace, is just around the corner and was our favourite place to eat in Siem Reap.

Great little idyll to escape from the hustle and bustle of this boom town. Service was fantastic and the breakfast was the best I had in Cambodia (fabulous French-style croissants). Although confusingly not in the same location, the hotel restaurant is fantastic. We booked dinner as part of the 'Lifestyle package' the hotel offers, which meant we were able to have a special seven-course Khmer tasting menu that was a real treat. It is well worth making the effort to travel out to the temples further afield from the usual crowd-pullers, although Angkor Wat is truly as spectacular as you can imagine. This is best viewed in the afternoon to get the best light and it is worth approaching from behind (east entrance) as this enables you to take it in without the throng of the crowds, which are particularly bad/noisy at sunrise.
