  Paul Foster’s tantalising Modern European fare has already earned appreciative nods in culinary‑critic quarters. Favourite dishes include cumin lamb rump and shoulder with cucumber and yoghurt, and the sea buckthorn curd with chicory, blueberries and muscovado caught our eye on the dessert menu: not your average Suffolk grub.

• Dress code Relaxed: unstructured shift dresses and polo shirts (suitable for disguising a greedily stuffed belly) should strike the right sartorial note.
• Top table Alfresco, by the pond; upstairs in the restaurant at a window seat with upstream views; or at the raised and curtained off 'Jockey's table'. Mind your head though! There are two private dining rooms, too; we like the Terrace Room (it has a balcony).
• Last orders 10pm in the restaurant. Lunch, 12–2.30pm (4pm on Sundays); then light bites until 6.30pm when the dinner sitting starts.
• Room service 24 hours: choose from the restaurant menu when the kitchen is open, otherwise it’s light snacks and drinks.
