The Racha

Phuket, Thailand

Getting there

On just-remote-enough Racha Yai island, 12 miles south of larger island jumping-off point Phuket, the Racha overlooks Batok Beach and bay.

  • Planes Fly into Phuket International Airport (www.phuketairportonline.com) at the north end of Phuket island.
  • Others Once you've landed in Phuket, the only way to get to the Racha is by land and speedboat transfer. It's a 45-minute drive from the airport down to Chalong Bay, on the south of Phuket, for the 30-45-minute boat ride. There are scheduled transfers between Chalong Bay and Racha Island, and although private trips can be arranged, check your flight arrival and departure times; if you arrive after 3.30pm, you may have to wait to travel the next day. Rough weather can also delay boat crossings.
