The Cascades on 52 hotel combines Italian elegance with Chinese flair, but the setting is distinctly Cape Town: dazzling beaches, equally flashy homes. Rooms riff on a bold black, white and red palette, kitted out with Asian antiques, Zulu art and European furnishings. That said, the biggest lure is natural: breathtaking ocean views.

Breakfast is the only meal served at Les Cascades on 52, although dinner is on offer at sister hotel Cascades on the Promenade – there's a free shuttle for diners.

Mimic the hotel’s Oriental-Italian blend and model European designer tailoring with Chinese accents: a chignon here, a mandarin collar there. -

Sit on the terrace, by the most sparkly, sun-kissed patch of ocean. -
