The Balmoral Hotel
Style Opulent Victorian manor
Setting Leafy spa-town backstreets
Three Victorian houses knocked into one grand dame of a boutique hotel, The Balmoral Hotel in Harrogate maintains a rakish air of opulence, with glamour-dripping crystal chandeliers, Louis XV armchairs, ornate Venetian mirrors and a scattering of curios and antiques. Such traditional trappings somehow fit seamlessly with the plush contemporary interiors: Designers Guild flock wallpaper, bold colours, and reupholstered red leather sofas. Dreamy and decadent.

Our favourite rooms
Dripping with decadence, the Windsor Suite is the most spacious of the hotel's rooms, boasting an imperious, draped bed and a sultry combination of bold blood reds and blacks in its furnishings. The two mini suites and the superior rooms generally have four-poster beds – ask when booking.
