Sunset Beach has all the simplicity of a motel, but one that’s had glamour thrown at it by the bucket-load. The façade may appear unassuming but once you’re in you’re a part of the sizzling St Tropez-style crowd, all here for one reason – to have some fun, and in style. Sitting on the whitewashed boards of your own private sundeck, watch the girls wade in off their boats carrying Fendi bags high above their heads. The ‘no uniforms’ policy means the staff are part of the gang, too. But don’t worry, they will be fully clothed – recognisable by a pencil tucked behind their ear or a flapping Hawaiian shirt as they run around placing orders. The rooms each have a beach-house feel, helped along by the ocean view behind the large glass doors.

The scene is loud and lively, even during the day, but if schmoozing with the Hamptons’ elite is on your holiday to-do list, this is the place to do it. The hotel manages to keep its loyal following coming back – the restaurant, beach, sunsets and people all come together to create a unique kind of atmosphere.
