The Guestbook

Our weekend stay at Strattons was absolutely fantastic. Definitely don't neglect to book a table in the hotel restaurant as it is without question the best restaurant in Swaffham. In addition, we tried some home-made cake from CoCoes (the deli attached to Strattons) and it was to die for. Swaffham is probably more of a base to explore the surrounding area, rather than a place to while away a whole weekend, so we would definitely recommend bringing the car. It's an easy 25 minute drive up to the north Norfolk coast for a walk on beautiful Holkham Beach. And, from the sublime to the ridiculous, we would also suggest taking a trip to Go Ape in Thetford Forest. The forest itself is great for an afternoon of mountain biking or walking, but also consider trying the off-road Segway driving on offer. It's a fairly unusual experience and not particularly glamorous, but we loved every minute for the sheer hilarity and novelty value.

What a lovely, welcoming, hotel. The staff were professional and efficient, and nothing was too much trouble. Our room, Seagull, was quirky and we loved it. Our evening meal was excellent, and the small problem which my husband had with his partridge was quickly dealt with and the issue resolved without fuss. Breakfast was as good as any we have had in many hotels over the world, including Raffles Singapore, and I can highly recommend the kedgeree. All the products were organic or locally sourced, or both, which is something we rate highly. The deli belonging to the hotel served excellent snacks and delicious cakes. Altogether, a very enjoyable visit to a lovely part of the country.

Beautiful hotel as described on website. Did also eat one meal at the Crown in Wells next the Sea, as also recommended by Mr & Mrs Smith and would happily continue that recommendation. My only less positive comment was re: the menu at Strattons. Whilst fresh and exciting, they doubled up their vegetable dishes as starter options, thereby limiting the choice unless you wanted the same veg twice. It was just about ok therefore to eat in once and food, once chosen, was delicious, but eating there a second night would have been very limited.

Fab hotel. We stayed in the Red Room, which had a log fire in it, so spent the day feeling manly and building fires while we watched DVDs from the extensive collection. Tea room just outside the hotel is well worth a visit too (but don't eat too much of the very good breakfast first).

We loved our stay at Strattons. The hotel was lovely and the food was amazing. We ate at the hotel on the Saturday evening and couldn't have been more pleased.
We had our 2 year old son with us and the staff were really friendly & welcoming to all of us, a good place for families.
We took day trips to Wells next the sea & Cromer, both were beautiful. Will be returning to Strattons.

Great hotel – get a room with a fire in it (in winter!), and there's a great little deli just outside the gates of the hotel for a cheeky lunch. Food in the restaurant was great – fish was excellent and mussels were amongst the best I've ever eaten!

If you can manage to tear yourself away from from the hotel, the Market Cross Cafe Bar is a five-minute walk away, where you can get a large glass of good wine at a very reasonable price. Go to Heacham on the coast. It is like stepping back in time with its row of colorful beach huts. Sit and look out over the Wash and enjoy the view and the peace. In Blakeney try the White Horse for lunch. Very good selection of wine by the glass and fabulous, far from average pub food.

You have got to make a trip to Blakeney, if you like walking but not too far i recommend walking to cley roughly 3 miles. its signposted so can't get lost, then have a refreshing drink at the first cafe on the left in the garden. there is a bus stop across the road if you don't fancy the walk back.

Had a stunning stay in the Red Room – absolutely perfect. Above all, the countryside around Strattons is beautiful for long walks and cycle rides. The hotel has useful laminated maps with different routes which they lend out to those eager for a wander. If you want to go further afield, get the hotel to book you one of the local 'eco-taxis'. The town of Swaffham itself is rather quaint with a number of small 'boutiquey' clothes and trinket shops just around the corner from the hotel.

We had a fabulous time at Strattons. Service was friendly and we enjoyed our room and terrace. As Swaffham is limited for 'entertainment', we had a fabulous day out at Holkham beach and would recommend Pimms and Barbecue at the Victoria nearby.

Strattons... well, what can I say?! Such a lovely weekend. We arrived late on a Friday evening, exhausted from a week at work and the journey from London. The check-in staff were extremely helpful and organised a table for us straight away in the restaurant, even though it was after 10pm.

We spent a gorgeous bank holiday lazing in the garden drinking wine and playing Trival Pursuit. We felt like we were in the Secret Garden – a million miles away from everyone and everything... perfect! The food was fantastic, our room was gorgeous and there are lots of things to do in the surrounding area. We drove out to nearby beaches and shopped in Bury St Edmunds. I would strongly recommend a visit! Thank you Mr & Mrs Smith for suggesting it!
