Just steps across the street from Royalton, DB Bistro Moderne (+1 212 391 2400) is a contemporary Parisian-style bistro both celebrated and ridiculed for its $150 burger. Another good (but more economical) French option is Rue 57 (+1 212 3075656) on West 57th Street, which is perfect for a Bloody-Mary-enhanced bustling brunch. For old-school New York glamour with added jazz, nothing beats the Oak Room at The Algonquin across the street (+1 212 840 6800), which has live shows Sunday to Thursday – reservations essential. Hudson Hall (+1 212 554 6502), housed within the Hudson Hotel at 356 West 58th Street, is a brand new addition to New York’s dining scene. Designed in imitation of an Ivy League cafeteria, the stylish space is kitted out with long communal tables and red brick walls; diners help themselves to the colourful, international cuisine. Created by carnivore chefs Rodelio Aglibot and Clifford Crooks, BLT Steak (+1 212 752 7470; bltsteak.com) is their flagship. Meat lovers can expect USDA prime, American and Japanese Kobe and certified Black Angus beef cuts served up with the potatoes from a choice of eight different styles. Fresh seafood and luscious desserts round out the menu at this midtown spot. Fall in love over a smooth tequila on the rocks at Toloache (+1 212 581 1818; toloachenyc.com), an unassuming Mexican bistro in the Theatre District. The restaurant takes its name from a plant known for its swoon-inducing qualities. Toloache’s owner/chef Julian Medina uses fresh meats, fruits and vegetables to create modern Mexican cuisine. The mosaic-tiled dining room creates a fiesta-friendly vibe.
