The Guestbook
Superb accommodation. Everything was beautifully furnished and decorated. I would definitely recommend dining at the Riad; the food was absolutely delicious, and served in the most romantic and divine Salon de Thé. I would recommend lunch at nearby cafe Terrasse des épices, located at 15 Souk Cherifa. Just a few minutes’ walk down into the souk you can enjoy rooftop dining with a good choice of dishes, and a very novel idea to beat the heat through mists of cool water sprayed from the rooftop. Also a visit to The Maison de Photographie in the Medina is very worthwhile. There you can enjoy a wonderful documentation of old Morocco and lunch on the rooftop terrace. Visit the local flea market where there is a fascinating collection of building materials, clothes, antiques, and other treasures.

If the crowds and haggling in the souks become too much, or if your time is limited, then consider doing your shopping at the government-run Ensemble Artisanal on Avenue Mohammed V near the Koutoubia Mosque. It has a couple of dozen little shops with everything from lamps to ceramics to bed linens, all consistently high quality. We stopped there on our last morning before heading to the airport and somehow managed to fill an entire suitcase with fabulous finds in less than 45 minutes! But bring cash, as cards are only accepted in some shops, and there is no cash machine. On a separate note, we had dinner on our first night at La Mamounia, something I'd definitely recommend. The vast gardens there are breathtaking, especially at night when they are gently illuminated by torch lamps and the moon, and it's silent except for birdsong. As we strolled around taking it all in, we couldn't believe that just a few hours earlier we had been in central London!
