The Guestbook

Overall, we had a lovely time in the Queensberry Hotel in Bath, with only a few things to remark. We arrived at 2.20pm and our room wasn't ready, despite the hotel advertising a 'from 2pm check-in'. We waited for almost 45 minutes in the lounge for our room to be prepared, but luckily there was complimentary tea, coffee, and daily newspapers to keep us occupied. Secondly, our room (number 25) was very pretty and light but it was in the basement of the hotel, which was slightly disappointing as I was expecting to be upstairs and it didn't occur to me that we could be in the basement. What the room lacked in view however, we believe it made up for in space, with a huge bed despite the room being a 'classic double'. Sunday nights from 8pm at Gascoyne Place pub with live jazz and fantastic food are not to be missed. Be sure to book in advance for a table in 'the lounge' area of this centrally located, lush pub.

I booked a junior suite for a birthday treat and got to enjoy one of the largest hotel rooms ever, with three floor-to-ceiling sash windows on to the quiet street. The bed was huge and comfortably firm and the rest of the furnishings a modish mix of antique and modern, which worked really well in the space. I was not put off by the comparatively small bathroom. The hotel is genuinely relaxed in feel, with unobtrusive but helpful and informed staff  – thank you to Martin especially for the prompt valet parking and restaurant tips, and to Liam for his tactful bar skills and knowledge of French gin (just ask). The self-service lounge works at the right time of day but if it's warm enough use the gardens, well divided into various 'rooms' for privacy. Bath has loads of interest and this place is an ideal base right on top of the costume museum in the Assembly Rooms where we crashed a book fair. Go right towards the Circus for other museums, art galleries and the Royal Crescent, or straight on literally downtown for the shops – the only drawback is that the walk back with the bags is uphill. A meal at the Olive Tree is worth having but needs time and we also liked Rustico Bistro a few streets away for a perfect Italian pre-theatre dinner and breakfast at Same Same Different. In our experience the hotel attracts a varied clientele who like the low-key style and it's not dominated by non-UK tourists. If, as we were told by another guest, it is the 'second best hotel in Bath', it's probably better value than the best.

Lovely hotel. Amazing breakfast in the Olive Tree, best eggs I have ever had.

Had a wonderful stay at the Queensberry, the staff were very friendly and helpful in planning our stay in Bath. I can also highly recommend breakfast served in your room, so tasty and plenty of it. We found a fantastic place for dinner - the Circus Cafe and Restaurant served amazing fresh locally sourced food, had an intimate atmosphere and was less than a 10 minute walk from the hotel. During the day we also visited Prior Park, a National Trust park, just outside the city centre, which had brilliant views across Bath.

Loved this hotel, it's the perfect place to stay in Bath. Our room on the top floor was a romantic attic space with spacious room and bathroom. We loved the nearby Sardinian restaurant Aio, great food and only a short walk away.

Excellent reception, staff and a very nice room. The hotel is 5 minutes walk away from the centre of Bath and is on a nice side street. The blinds were a bit thin though, so the room lit up a little too much for a lie-in.

Mr Smith and I had a wonderful bank holiday weekend at the Queensberry Hotel in Bath. The staff were very friendly and remarkably accommodating. The food here from the beautifully presented breakfast to the superb dinner in the Olive Tree Restaurant was exceptional. Visitors to Bath should check out Komedia, the live entertainment venue. On the Monday afternoon which was during the Bath International Music Festival , we saw a very moving film about the origins of Billie Holliday's signature song 'Strange Fruit' which was followed by a wonderful Jazz concert with Ayanna Witter Johnson .They have a wonderful mix of events there, if you love music or comedy Komedia is well worth a visit.

We had a very good stay. The staff was most welcoming at the reception and showed us around the hotel. The room, whilst on the last floor, was very spacious and has a very nice and comfortable interior. Our complimentary bottle was also on the table. We truly enjoyed the stay and would recommend it to anybody who wants to visit Bath.

The Marlborough Tavern (www.marlborough-tavern.com), less than a 10-minute stroll away was excellent for an extended gastropub lunch.

Marc, GoldSmith, stayed on 9 Oct 2010

The hotel was excellent and the concierge booked us into afternoon tea at the Royal Crescent Hotel, which was fabulous. There was plenty of food so one was enough to share. Hall and Woodhouse at the back of Jolly's was a great lunch spot right on the main street and with a fabulous roof terrace (if the weather holds up!)

Eimear, BlackSmith, stayed on 17 Sep 2010

We had a delicious breakfast at a great little cafe on Bartlett street called 'same same different'. Staff were really friendly and welcoming. The cafe was always busy when we went in the morn, but we were always served straight away.

A great weekend break. We found a great Italian restaurant just five minutes walk away from the hotel. It is called 'Enzo' on Gay Street and calls itself an authentic Italian restaurant. The staff are really friendly and the food is fantastic. Unusually for us we went back on the following evening again and found it was full so we recommend booking if you want to eat around 20.00 - 22.00.
A very friendly city full of wonderful restaurants. 'Enzo' is a must.

Chandos Deli - I think it is on George Street , it is on the main A4 just down the hill from the Queensberry - a most wonderful deli and a definite must visit . Also if you are lucky enough to hear a band play at the Royal Crescent bandstand , this is absolutely lovely too - Bath is beautiful especially in the sunshine . Make sure you pay this Somerset gem a visit

We went to the Moon and Sixpence restaurant a few minutes walk from the hotel. The service was really good, the wine list had plenty of intersting choice and the food was lovely.

After checking in, my partner and I decided to take a stroll into the centre of Bath when we stumbled upon Yen Sushi at 11 Bartlett Street (+44 (0)1225 333313). It was not open at the time but we thought we would give it a go in the evening. After relaxing a little back at the hotel we decided to try the sushi place – it was packed! It proved its popularity and all the dishes, hot or cold, were truly prepared in the Japanese way before your eyes. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, the food was sublime and the service as friendly as it gets!

For comfort (hangover) food on New Year's Day, we headed straight to Jamie's Italian. Not only do they serve up some of the most delicious Italian food on the high-street, the top floor has the most stunning views over the spires of Bath. It was the perfect way to start 2010!

Thermae Bath Spa is definitely worth a visit, the rooftop open-air pool is brilliant and has incredible views over the city. It's also worth trying to get rugby tickets if you're in town. We saw Bath v Edinburgh in the Heineken cup. Bath RFC's home, the Recreation Ground, is right in the middle of Bath, just over the river from the centre – as it's one of the smallest grounds in top-level rugby, the atmosphere is great.

Home after a two night stay in Bath. The Queensbury Hotel was booked after reading various recommendations on Guestbook and we were not disappointed. The hotel is a wonder to look at and definitely one of the best we have stayed in. The staff were excellent and always on hand with advice and umbrellas! After reading a few reviews, I decided that breakfast was best in the room and it was an added treat to be able to have a relaxing start to the day with a proper cup of tea. The room was spacious and the bathroom was the largest I have seen, taking advantage of the fact this was actually once a house. Each room has a separate seating area which came in handy when relaxing in the room before and after nights out. We ordered plenty of drinks from room service and were pleasantly surprised at the prices. Bath is a beautiful city and full of history. We had the twilight package at the spa and this was well worth the money, I came out feeling as fresh as a daisy and the cleanest I have for years! Also worth a mention is the tour round the old Roman Baths, it took us a leisurely hour and half to get round and was enjoyable – they do give funny looks if you put your hand in the water that says "do not touch" so please give this a miss! All in all, I think it was worth the money – I'm a great believer in it being the little things that count, and I think the Queensbury Hotel and Bath both delivered.

Mee boutique was a great find a stone's throw away. It's a one-stop shop for girlie treats and a great find just a little off the beaten track, at 9A Bartlett Street (+44 (0)1225 442250). Their website has a great itinerary for the perfect girls' weekend in Bath, when you're leaving Mr Smith at home!

A little gem that we found just round the corner was called Sub13. it was in the basement and served the best cocktails I have had in a very long time. The vanilla martini was amazing. Great bar, really friendly staff that weren't afraid to share their recipes. I need to return.

We had a fantastic stay at the Queensberry. All the staff were warm and welcoming. On arrival, they took our bags and parked our car, meaning we could get on with our day in Bath. They also gave us a map and pointed us to the attractions. The bags were in our room when we returned and were treated to complimentary tea downstairs. The restaurant was superb! An absolute must. When we left they also helped us with directions for our onward journey to Cornwall.

We had a lovely stay in Bath for the New Year break. We booked a New Year's Eve meal at a restaurant called Martini and think it deserves a special mention. They really gave all the customers a warm welcome on New Year's Eve and created a great party atmosphere. The meal was a special five-course event but the portions were just the right size, the food was great and the service was excellent. We'd recommend a meal there to anyone looking for a welcoming, traditional Italian restaurant which is reasonably priced with high quality cuisine.

The entire stay was fantastic, and unbelievably relaxing. If you are paying a visit to Bath the Therma Spa is a must visit, along with the abbey. Both are obvious choices but well worth the visit; where else could you relax in a roof-top pool in October surrounded by beautiful architecture and not feel spoilt?

Rebecca, BlackSmith, stayed on 5 Oct 2008

My Mum and I stayed here as a little treat and had a fabulous time. What a gorgeous boutique hotel for such a reasonable price. No stuffy airs or graces here, just really lovely staff and a fab setting (though the locals do like a bit of a sing-song of an evening so you might want to ask for a room at the back...) We loved The Olive Tree restaurant downstairs and
drinks in the hotel's garden by the quince tree, but for something a little less formal do pay a culinary visit to The Pinch restaurant in Margarets Buildings, a short hop away from the Royal Crescent. It's small but perfectly formed and the French food is total tastebud heaven. A short stroll down from the Queensberry and you're bound to hit the shoe haven that is Lux. Beware, the girls are gorgeous and they stock Anya Hindmarch...

A must-visit in Bath: The Arch Restaurant and Champagne Lounge. The overwhelming amount of restaurants in Bath can make deciding where to eat a bit of a headache! A friendly tourist recommended the restaurant as we stood outside looking at the menu. It wasn’t cheap but it was worth every penny and the upstairs bar is a great place to sit and have a quiet cocktail.

Louise, BlackSmith, stayed on 11 Sep 2008

Had a wonderful stay at this stunning hotel, whose staff made such a fuss of our young children, showing them the wine cellar, Georgian coal cellars, chef's kitchen etc – great entertainment! Spent a lovely morning at the Court Gardens in Holt (National Trust) – beautiful for adults, and with an adventure playground for children, currently with a tree-spotting trail with ancient folklore facts thrown in.
