The Guestbook

Portrait Suites - wonderful location, wonderful accommodation and wonderful staff. This was our first trip to Rome, and staying at the Portrait Suites was possibly the most intelligent decision we made prior to arrival. The rooms were sufficiently generous and beautifully appointed. The rooftop terrace was a welcome respite at the end of a long day of sightseeing. A cool drink, great views and usually a refreshing breeze to keep our cool. The choice of taking breakfast on the terrace was also an option that gave a great sense of flexibility, and it was the right way to start another day of sunshine and sightseeing. One of the many highlights of our stay, and by far one of the most memorable and maybe not so well known, was a visit to the Capuchin crypt. It is located in Via Veneto near Piazza Barberini in the church of Santa Mari della Concezione dei Cappuccini and contains the skeletal remains of 4000 Capuchin monks who were buried there by their order. It is a truly amazing place. Another highlight was our dinner at Santopadre, which was recommended by our concierge. It is a really authentic family-run Italian restaurant. They have wine and food menus, but seemingly no one ever uses them. You eat the freshest food as they cook according to what was available at the market that day, and the house wine is highly recommended.

Our room at Portrait Suites in Rome was one of the best i've ever seen. fantastically well decorated in a luxurious but trendy way with fresh fruit and a bottle of wine on arrival. the staff were really helpful and we loved the roof terrace for chilling after site seeing. it is not overpriced for what it is.

The concierge at this hotel is fabulous. He recommended a great restaurant a short taxi drive from the hotel (Gaetano Costa) and got us tickets to a sold-out art exhibition. He can also organise private tours of all the major attractions around Rome and some you probably didn't know about.

Also - the rooftop terrace is fabulous so grab a bottle (or two) of wine and spend the evening watching the sun set over the Spanish Steps.
