Getting there
- Planes Newquay airport is a little over half an hour’s drive away, offering flights to London Gatwick and other UK cities with Flybe (www.flybe.com) and Air Southwest (www.airsouthwest.com), as well as one or two destinations in Europe with other budget carriers.
- Trains Trains from London Paddington call at Truro (www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk), 10 miles away, from where you can grab a cab to St Mawes, or take a connection to Falmouth and hop on the ferry. There is a bus from Truro to St Mawes, but it only operates on the fifth Thursday of the month, when the moon is waxing (OK, once a day).
- Automobiles From the M5, you can use the A30 to get further west right up until the B3275, when you’ll need to follow signs to Ladock. After that, use the A3078 towards Tregony/St Mawes. There’s plenty of parking at the hotel.
- Others The ferry from Falmouth sets scenic sail to St Mawes three times an hour in summer, once an hour in winter. Nearwater offer free collection from the quay.
