The Guestbook
Good location, but being near a road means there is a little noise from outside. The staff are very friendly.

Luxx was great – thank you! Staff were very helpful and they let me have a late check-out. While in Bangkok, I took a Thai cooking class at Amati Thai Cooking School – absolutely fabulous. They pick you up from your hotel and deliver you to a temple wharf onto a boat for a trip down the canals to the canal-side school. Tam, the owner, is a wonderful teacher. She has an amazing herb, flower and vegetable garden and demonstrates four dishes every day using her home-grown ingredients. You then cook them yourself and eat them for lunch, after which you get delivered back to your hotel or to a shopping destination if you prefer. I can strongly recommend this experience as a unique way to get an insight into the Thai culture (www.amitathaicooking.com).

Sky Bar at the State Tower on Silom Road is approximately 15 minutes walk from Luxx, and has amazing views of Bangkok. It's a great way to start a stay in the city. The dress code is smart (no shorts or flip flops) and the cocktails don't come cheap, but it's well worth it for a glamourous intro to Bangkok. For a good, user-friendly introduction to Thai cuisine, try nearby Ban Chiang at 14 Soi Srivieng, off Thanon Surasak: fab curries, Pad Thai, soups and salads, served by friendly staff in a relaxed garden setting.

Niu's Restaurant is less than five minutes' walk from the Luxx hotel and it was absolutely excellent – I would highly recommend it to anyone staying in Silom area. Afterwards, the jazz bar downstairs has a fabulous atmosphere with wonderful smooth jazz. FYI, the suite at the Luxx was lovely, but noisy due to traffic, but overall a fabulous place to stay.

Luxx is undeniably a fantastic hotel. Staff are very accomodating and ready to cater to your every whim. The location is fabulous. Leavethe hotel and turn right. Walk down onto the main road (Silom Road), and turn left. Walking about 150 yards will see you straight into the night market, hoarding so many little goodies that you will no doubt end up spending more than you bargained for. Top tip: ask the hotel staff for mosquito repellent, they have some free behind the counter.

Cabbages & Condoms is deserving of a visit in more than one way: not only is it an excellent Thai restaurant, but all the profits go to AIDS and family-planning initiatives. Forget the end-of-meal mint, you get a little something for your weekend away instead.
